If you found yourself bemoaning what happens after time runs out on the fourth quarter of a pro football game, you’re going to absolutely loathe “sudden-death” baseball.

Ok, so it's only being tested in some backwater partner league. But it takes an already dumb rule and makes it even dumber. Now it's more than understandable as to why no one gets his jam on a 17 inning, 5+ hour game, so like many other BB fans, I kinda understood why they implemented the inherent runner on 2b to start the extra innings. But of all the rule changes to the game in recent years, I'm guessing this isn't one of the more popular ones. I always preferred my compromise - meaning if you gotta implement this, why not at least wait until the 12th inning. Give the teams two full extra innings to complete the game the old school way, and if no luck, then start the 12th with the runner on 2nd, maybe even 3rd. But 'sudden death'???? Egads!

I believe the easiest thing to do to get the White Sox to the next level is to sign Kyle Schwaber - put him in at DH and have him smack 40 Bombs over the right field fence - predominantly at Guaranteed Rate Field. Left-handed power problem solved - Guaranteed Rate RF was the one of the most likely places for a HR to be hit in all the majors - plays to his abilities. Let Engle play RF.

Signing Schwarber is not likely to happen, because based on last year - TLR wants to use the DH to rotate guys around the roster (it made him look like he was doing something).

The bigger question is how much would any type of delay eat into the regular season. We can have a somewhat truncated ST, but there has to be one. Can't send the players from light practice straight into the regular season. So it's Capt Obvious that the longer these CBA negotiations stretch into the coming weeks, the greater the chances are that the regular season will not play out at 162 games. And that my fellow diehards, would suck.

won't hurt the sport at all. if they lost a whole season it wouldn't hurt the sport other than temporarily setting them back a few bucks. fans will continue to pay thru the nose as they always have when it restarts. for the players, what small setback they would encounter would be swallowed up in no time when they play again. some players would be affected by losing a year. a shame they'd have to do without several million (or even just hundreds of thousands) more added to their savings accounts but they'll be just fine. i KNOW you're not worried about the owners.
