This is old but I just saw this. So true. It's almost unfair for defenders to try to defend QBs like Lamar in the open field and then all of a sudden play as if they have the red jersey on at the last second

This hit was malicious and has no place in our game…But the NFL needs to get the “weaponized quarterback slide” out of the game. As dangerous as hits on a quarterback are when the quarterback chooses to slide, we need to stop allowing quarterbacks to fake slide or late slide in order to gain yardage and confuse the defenders on if the quarterback is sliding or not.It would go a long way towards taking those terrible hits out of the game and making things more safe for the quarterback and for the defender. A late slide, fake slide, or acting like you’re gonna go out of bounds and then skirting forward for a few more yards; these all need to be 15 yard penalties against the offense. And it’s about time the NFL referees started marking the ball down immediately when the quarterback starts to slide… Which is the rule by the way!If this happens, the big hits on quarterbacks when they’re sliding will be completely eliminated from the game. That’s what we all want right?

That is an issue, but wasn't an issue with this particular case.

Sure it was. The QB goes down late and the defender is expected to quickly stop playing football after going 100 percent all out until the last second. What if Lawrence didn't go down?

He intentionally led with his forearm. That was premeditated, slide or no slide. The issue is that he's a dirty player with a history, not Lawrence's slide.

There was no fake, no intent to deceive. He slid, he got hit hard and high. Penalty (and suspension due to repetitive behavior) all warranted.

All the defender had to do was dodge the QB and make slight contact. He went forearm first hard and high. The league got it right.

That was ridiculous to me (not only the penalty but ESPECIALLY the instant ejection)... I saw the hit and Lawrence was clearly holding on to the last microsecond before sliding... and the defender didn't even appear to nail him in the helmet. I've seen FAR more egregious stuff than this where it's clearly spearing and this was not the case. Now I'm not going to pretend I'm a better football expert than Joe Thomas (one of the better LTs in NFL history) but how was that MALICIOUS? Give me a fuckin' break.

This QB slide vs. dive bullshit has gotta stop. These guys are running WAYYY too fast and the game is moving way too quickly to slide at the last second where a defender is already trying to make a tackle at the midsection or feet (because you can't really tackle anywhere else these days) and then strike a QB who makes himself 3 feet smaller with a slide.

I'd just eliminate the slide all together. If you want to take off with the ball, fuckin' act like a runningback. It's gotten completely ridiculous. Then there was the Bears game Thanksgiving (think that was the one) where Williams was running towards the sideline, stayed in (literally made a move to do so) got DESTROYED in the side by a Detroit player... and all the Bears fans were calling for a flag and being pissed off... Fortunately the refs did NOT flag that.

Tired of these QBs getting all this preferential treatment with these stupid ass rules. At least Lamar 90% of the time is diving head first and acting like a RB, and he doesn't seem to scream for flags. Wilson was another guy that slid WELL before any defender was near him (if doing a QB slide).

You aren’t understanding the point. QBs need to go down early so it’s clear they are giving themselves up is the former 8 time All Pro, 10 time all star, hall of famers point.

You are missing the point. Going high and hard with a forearm to the neck and head area is a penalty regardless.

The snow was so bad today in Orchard Park the Bills had to cancel practice.
I'm about 20 miles away, and only got a few inches of snow here, but the wind has been blowing 30-40 mph most of time.
They got more like 30 inches there, and there just aren't enough passable roads yet for players to get to the stadium.
