There were five times in NFL history where a QB had...

300+ completions
400+ rushing yards
40+ total TD
5+ rushing TD
division title

2020: Josh Allen
2021: Josh Allen
2022: Josh Allen
2023: Josh Allen
2024: Josh Allen

Only one time in history has a team gone to the SB 4x in a row and come away empty handed

LOL. That's brutal. Probably should figure out how to take kneel downs out of scoring

Same thing happened in my other league.

I am blaming the stupid rankings. I wanted to start the Chargers D and was looking at different rankings, all had Indy at #1 this week.

“Experts” my ass

Nah, can’t do that.

Your decision. Take ownership.

I got zero from the Colts in KoTF championship game. Part of why I got my butt kicked by @Barilko

Yep, I could have changed my decision. This is why I rarely look at rankings anymore other than pre-draft. Makes me think too much

So the only money league I won the championship:

I drafted Cmac #1
I traded for Jordan Mason after CMac got hurt. I gave up Jameson Williams.

My team just had a ton of depth at RB to pull me through. After losing those two guys I still had Achane, Chase Brown and Bucky AND Joe Burrow is an assassin.

I feel your pain.
I went with the Colts too and LOST by 5 points!!!

But my decision was swayed by fandom. Seahawks DST was available but they were playing my Bears in Chicago. The 4th-worse offense has to be motivated to play in prime time, right?

Would have won by 20+. Ugh.

Man, the franchise tag just seems extreme. He's done well, but not that well. And there's McCarthy.

Maybe it comes down to if the Vikes make a real run in the playoffs. A super bowl appearance would be very hard to ignore when deciding wether he's brought back or not. But if they're 1 and done?? Different story
if they are keeping him. A fran tag makes more sense than a contract extension.
He gets paid for how he has been playing & they got another year to evaluate or start JJ.
If they do start JJ sometime next year. he is still on a rookie contract so the insurance plan doesnt hurt the cap. Also if they do move on to JJ the following year. There is no future repercussions like if they extended his contract.

Side note. If they are willing to part with him. Sign him to the fran tag that gives you multiple #1 picks if someone truly wanted to sign him away from the vikes. I think that fran tag is cheaper than the exclusive. (dont remember how that works honestly)

I'm assuming you mean the transition tag? Player can still negotiate with other teams, original team can match. But if they don't, they get no compensation. If he were a restricted free agent, then they could offer him a 1st round tender, and any team that signs him, would have to give up their #1.. but he's not a restricted fee agent.

Unless McCarthy just didn't show them enough in whatever he's been able to do, I just don't see the Vikes offering Darnold anything like what he could get in the open market. And as nice as he was, he's not worth top 3 QB money, he's just not. Your #1 pick has had his year to watch and learn, it's time for him to take the reigns, not time to over pay for slightly over mediocre production with arguably the best offensive talent in the league

I agree with you.
Unless McCarthy just isnt showing what he needs too (like Lance) The Vikes will go with him. But if you tag Darnold where he can sign with other teams. You get their 1sts. I remember Bonehead jerry giving up 2 #1's for Frickin' Galloway one year.
Just kinda depends on how much insurance the Vikes want to have going into next season. At 14-2 they are obviously close. having 2 capable Qbs for a season & one on a rookie contract is not only doable, but very advantageous. So either have great insurance or someones #1's. Think there is a tag for a 1st & 3rd or something too, but been a long time since I researched these things.

Do you really think he'll get a top 3 contract from anyone? I'd be shocked. Feels like a situation where both sides would want Darnold back with the Vikings. Darnold been on 3 other teams before signing with the Vikings, surely he's aware that his season is due in large part to landing in a really good spot, great receivers, good OL and especially a play caller that fits him like glove vs what he experienced playing on other teams. As for the Vikings letting your starter walk after the success the team as experienced with him for a rookie who just missed the entire season with a serious injury seems like a big risk they need not make. Rookies are a gamble to start with and it's not like JJ was first QB off the board, or second, or third or even fourth then throw in the injury, and he got no experience last season, none in actual games that counted. Imagine the outrage if they let Darnold walk and JJ turns out to be a flop. Viking need not take the risk and Darnold should want to be where the setting is ideal for him. Think they find a comfortable middle ground on a contract for Darnold.

Oh yea, you can tag him.. with the standard franchise tag, the team, or the player, with team permission, can still negotiate a trade/ deal with other teams. But the terms are up to the teams, and may or may not involve draft picks, 1sts or otherwise. That's what Seattle/Dallas /Galloway did. It wasn't a rule that Seattle gets 2 Dallas #1's, that's just what the deal ended up being between the teams. Terrible deal for Dallas.

If anyone were to try the same with a tagged Darnold, it could be player(s), pick(s) or a combination of both being traded, nothing written into the CBA as to what that compensation has to be- like it is with restricted free agents

No i don't think he'll get top 3 money in a deal, anywhere, but I think he could get more than what his production deserves, and Minnesota shouldn't be paying it, not with the heir apparent on the roster

the non-exclusive tag. You give up 2 1sts if you sign them away from the team tagging them.

The NFL team that puts the non-exclusive tag on a player can match an offer sheet extended from any other team. Should the team decide to decline to match the offer, the team that tagged the player will receive two first-round picks from the team that signed the player to the team.

With Trey Lance, Zack Wilson of the world in mind I think the Vikings be crazy not to make every effort to sign Darnold. I suspect our different opinions reflect our personal evaluation of JJ.

Forgot about that one. Good call.

But I don't see anyone giving up 2 #1's for Darnold, so he'd be stuck returning the average top 5 salary.. which to me, is still ridiculous for what he produced with that talent

Could be. But even giving JJ a moderate benefit of the doubt, puts him no worse than on par, if not ahead of, where Darnold was coming into this year.. which was a busted #1, career clip board holder/ bridge at best
