If we could at least get Saffold to play a whole season our run game should be legit! Center position still remains a concern.

We have three centers on the roster. If Barnes fails, plug in Rhaney or Kush.

Wichmann and Brown also have gotten bigger. This may be Saffold's last year at starting being relegated to back-up status. He may get beaten out by Wichmann or Brown. Our O-line say by Week 2 or 3 could be: L to R, GRob, Brown, Barnes (Kush) Wichmann, Havenstein. Or swap Wichmann and Brown at RG/LG and Kush relegates Barnes to the bench.

We need depth! If Barnes goes down we're screwed! Rhaney sucks! I've seen him get thrown around like a rag doll at times! It would be nice to see them bring in a young stud that shows promiss and pushes Barnes for the starting spot. Why not burn a #2 on a new center? :2cents:

I would hesitate to put a round # on the draft pick, as it depends on who is available at that pick and the value of that pick relative to the Rams board. They should definitely have their eyes open for a center though IMO, just don't make a big reach.

you're right I agree. It depends on who's available. But we should consider drafting a center!

Really surprised they didn't bring Wisniewski in to check out to play center?? He signed with the Eagles yesterday. He can play guard too. Big upgrade over Barns.

He may not be a scheme fit. Isn't he more of a zone blocking lineman? There wasn't all the much interest anywhere really, and I think he was counting on nailing down a long term deal.

Spot on shopson. Wisniewski's career is long done and he is living off of his Penn State days' rep. Injuries have definitely slowed him and he can be beaten badly sometimes. In comparison, Barnes is probably an equal or slightly better than Wisniewski IMO because Barnes has had way less injuries and is a step faster even though Barnes also gets manhandled at times.

Didn't Barnes get the game ball from Fisher in a game against the Seahags last season?

If you watch Barnes during the game, he often depends on this big young rooks at guard or sometimes Saffold to help him block. If the opponents blitz up the middle, it is usually successful because Barnes just gets run over.

Fine.... I'd like to see Saffold do that. Barnes is a hustler and that's not a bad thing. He will be fine on the line.
A point not to be understated.

Remember that when Barnes is hustling back to help up the QB after he got beat up the middle again. Barnes is a fine backup and spot starter, but he's not a starting center on a run dominant team.

Yep, shopson. That is always a choice moment as a fan to relish with a facepalm. I don't know how many times I stated to myself last season: "What the hell is Barnes doing?"
