why all the hate ?

this is what i see

he is a 2x pro bowl player , he has the team record for sacks over 3 seasons , our pass rush seems to be better since he has returned

the bad is he missed a year do to injury and in some peoples minds he isnt an'" elite" pass rusher

I think we should resign him (franchise tag is the best move ) because i cant see him getting top money for non elite , but very good production

thats the kicker here , most want him to be an elite player as the 13th overall guy picked but whats wrong with very good ? whats wrong with a guy who pushes 90 career sacks ? why is that a sign of bustdom ?

i dont get it :suds:

Who's hating?

I agree he is a vey good player but he is not at the elite level. We can always use very good players. Its just that many are expecting that he will want elite money next year. IMO, he hasn't earned it. I also agree that the franchise tag is probably the best outcome. It gives us another year to see if he makes the jump to elite and it gives him another year to prove himself.

I think we give him an offer at the end of the season and tell him if he gets a better offer to let us try to match it. If we franchise him and he has a big year then we will be paying a lot more for him. I say have a good base salary with built in incentives for sacks and games played. This will allow his play to dictate the amount he makes.

I don't think Orakpo is a bust but I agree with j_y that he is a nice player but not an outstanding player. Kerrigan is more of a play maker IMO. I think both are good football players, not great players. It's all about fiscal responsibility. Keeping Orakpo is fine as long as he doesn't cost too much. I wouldn't want to go to the $8 million level for him. You can find someone else for that kind of money who would be better.

It's made a difference having him back on the field this year. It allows Kerrigan to have better play as well. He's had a pretty solid year so far IMO. Not elite, but very good.

IMO, the real problem is Rak is in the wrong scheme. His best year was his rookie year. He was a DE in a 4-3 with his hand in the dirt. He has never become a dominant 3-4 OLB. He is just better as a DE going after the QB 100% of the time.

Kerrigan, on the other hand, has made the transition to a productive OLB in a 3-4 and is a more complete playmaker. I won't be surprised if Rak doesn't seriously consider going to a team that runs a 4-3. It just suits his skill set better.

he was an OLB even as a rookie most of the time

Dad, we ran a 4-3. He was a DE exclusively his rookie year.

he absolutely was not

we drafted him and zorn made him an OLB

i clearly remember how many times frustrated fans begged he be moved to DE

he was an OLB , always has been as a pro except on few occasions in certain defenses as a rookie

I dont see what rak gives us that rob jackson doesnt

rob jackson doesnt make a offense focus on him . Rak does as our sack totals indicates

as for tackles the last 2 games i see a pick 6 and a FR . i will take the turnovers

dad I know you're a big Orakpo fan but I wouldn't pay this guy $8 or $9 million dollars. You can get the same guy elsewhere for much less. LBF has been way better during his time in Washington and he just topped the $5 million mark. Double digit sacks one year, 6 FF fumbles in his 5th year and 1 INT.

OK , i will bite , who do we get that is better for less then the franchise tag ?

and way better ? rak is a 2x pro bowler who has set a team record for sacks . are you telling me that a guy who will push 90 career sacks isnt worth 9 mil ? in this day and age i think the franchise tag value is pretty darn close
