I really hope the Mets bring Cespedes back, we desperately need that bat in the middle of the lineup. Having Murphy back would be nice but I'd much rather commit that salary to Cespedes. All depends how much the Wilpons are willing to spend (hopefully they've recouped most of the money Madoff took from them).

Colon's salary, plus Murphy's salary and a little extra should cover the cost of Cespedes. Mets have sent a qualifying offer to Murphy so it'll cost a team a first if they sign him.

Murphy is one of the handful of players this year who I think MAY accept the QO. It has never happened, but it could happen with multiple players this year (Kennedy, Murphy, Anderson, maybe others).

David Price- Cubs
Jason Hayward- Cards
Justin Upton- Astros
Chris Davis- O's
Yoenis Cespedes- Mets
Zach Greinke- Doyers
Alex Gordon- Royals
Johnny Cueto- Red Sox/Yanks
Jordan Zimmermann- Giants
Mike Leake- Giants

Upton to Stros is the only wow choice IMO and that's only because I am hoping the owner realizes what he's got going and looks to get them over the hump. I think the Giants are only players in the Greinke sweepstakes to drive the price into oblivion for the Doyers. Like Cal said, I see the Giants being pretty active in trade talks with plenty of ML ready assets and cheddar to burn to the tune of 50 mil.

The Greinke bidding war worries me because all that does it set the bar higher and higher for deGrom, Harvey and Syndergaard in a few years.

Better lock em up now and buy out some arbitration years.

Yup. This is the new strategy. Offer young studs some security by paying them over-value through their last 2 or 3 arb years, but get them at HUGE discounts through their first couple FA years.

TB did this with Longoria and the Giants did it with Bumgarner.

I hope you're wrong on Cueto and Leake for obvious reasons.

At best, I will only be right about one of them. And for the record, I do believe I will be right about one of them.

I predicted Maeda to AZ because they expressed interest... never in my dreams did I imagine Greinke to sign with us. Shows you how difficult FA is to predict.

Cueto is the sexy FA but I really liked what I saw from Leake in terms of how his pitching matches our park and the sped up pace he pitches with was such a pleasant contrast from the snail's pace that we got from Vogey, keeps our D on their toes.

Which one do you think we go with?
Money aside, I think I might actually prefer Leake. He is younger, he hits and his pace is very fun to watch. Granted, his ceiling is not as high as Cueto, but I think he will end up being more productive over the next 5 years.

I think that his asking price right now is a bit outrageous, though. We will see what happens when his ask drops.

Damn, must be nice. I didn't realize you had that much room to work with… if I'm SF I'd go after a Samardzija & Cueto combo. That'd be nasty to add to Bumgarner. I think Shark would do really well pitching in AT&T.
Dayum, dude.

Got any stock tips for me?
