I will start with my team.
I am obviously very happy with the way the season went.
I felt my draft went well and there are a few early round picks (as always that didn't turn out) but I drafted really good late in the draft.
I thought I was screwed from the start with the preseason injuries of my 1st and 9th rd picks (CJ Baxter and Rueben Owens) but it turns out getting Le'Veon Moss late and losing Owens probably helped me more then it hurt me... With Owens there is probably a lot more of a share load there given how Moss blossomed this year.
Things I regret
Keeping Ollie Gordon over Omarion Hampton. I am huge fans of both of these guys but it was a great problem to have deciding between the two. Ollie started off slow but came on strong after the BYU game. Ever since I stopped adding the "III" in his name in my lineup he took off. However, Hampton was great the ENTIRE year. I loved both of these guys. My two favorite college RB's it made it a hard decision but how could I have not kept Ollie after winning the Doak Walker award and being the Soul 12 Championship game MVP last year with 5 rushing td's? He was unstoppable by the end of last year... While not nearly as good this year he was at least pretty solid after Week 5 or so.. Having a few 2 and 3 td games.
Dylan Sampson- I mentioned this during the season but I had Sampson all ready to be selected. Even texted OB and maybe even The Q that he was going to be my pick and only to get TreVeyon Henderson in my head with the talent he had and fearful of Tennessee passing all year long and using 3 RB's... Henderson was ok for me and he came through at times but he wasn't an every week start like Sampson was but oh well it turned out fine for me. Just fun to think about it.
Things that Surprised Me
Using Kyle McCord as much as I did. I only drafted 4 QB's this year and all 4 contributed to my team in a big way. None were week in week out great like some of the other QB's I have had in years past but this was probably the first time in my Soul 12 career where I generally could have played any of the 4 on my roster (Until Miller Moss lost his starting job) and have been fine with ay of them. McCord was just way more consistent then Beck and Moss who were a little bit erratic fantasy wise. They had their good moments but they were capable of low fantasy games as well. This opened the door for McCord and by the midway point he became an every week starter for me including a solid showing in the Title game. Beck had a fantastic final week of the season but I went with McCord because of the potential shootout with Miami (which it happened to be) and more consistent play. When I drafted McCord I was looking at about every QB and their dog as an option but with the double bye week so many didn't work. This was one area I wanted to make sure I paid attention to the byes with the double bye week so it was important for me to find and QB who was playing when my top 3 had byes for it to make sense. I really wanted to draft Ashton Daniels there but his bye weeks were horrible for me and it seemed like McCord was at least an "ok" start when needed. I figured I would have to use him once or twice this year if things went right.. Low and be hold he was a very important part of my team. I really enjoyed having McCord turn out so well this year. I knew he was capable and when I selected him I had somewhat of a good feeling he would end up with a much better year with the pressure off of him and a fresh start but I never thought he would end up my QB 2 and basically equal to my #1 most weeks if not better.
Overall Draft
I can't complain. Like I said like any year had some early picks not work out but I had a lot of later round picks that turned out good for where I got them and played an important part in my season.
Miller Moss, wasn't bad fantasy wise and while I got some use out of him he ended up more as my QB4 behind McCord and Beck and then lost his starting job and held onto a clipboard for me the rest of the year.
Germie Bernard- I knew there was a risk involved with this pick but I was really high on him. He wasn't horrible but most of my WR's drafted after him turned out better. The pick didn't hurt me and I did use him but by the end of the year I really never considered start him anymore.
I got a lot of usaging out of my mid/late rd picks which included Antonio Williams, Kyle McCord, Kevin Coleman, Carlos Hernandez, Le'Veon Moss. These guys all played pretty big roles for me. Hernandez was hurt for half the year but ended up starting him 3 times late in the year when the double byes called for more use of our benches this year and Hernandez while not a high volume guy I believe caught a TD pass in every game I had to use him in. McCord and Antonio Williams were practically every week starters for me and did well. Kevin Coleman started for me more then not with the double byes and I was able to sit him during his tough matchups. While he didn't blow up and have a crazy good game all year he had some solid games in which I ended up starting him most weeks. After Shapen went down I wasn't sure if I could use him but it ended up that I used him nearly weekly with all of the byes this year. It turned out well for me. A guy who I took last year and rostered and only used one time... Never thought I would draft him this year but as the draft got later, I decided to give my boy another shot. Unlike Moose Muhammad and Barion Brown he earned his keep this year.
My rd 23 and 24 pick combined for 1 catch this year and Rd 24 hit the portal.
One big thing for me was after starting off with horrible injury news in PS. (3 players lost, 2 for the season, 1 for half the season) my team stayed pretty healthy after that minus Le'Veon Moss who was REALLY good for me before his injury and played a huge role for me. I think I had one in game injury where the player didn't return which was Isaac Brown who had an OK game before his injury and then Isaiah Bond missed a week with injury. The last 3 years have been rather healthy for me during the season after having PS out for season injuries in all 3 of those seasons. I seem to stay healthier during the season then before the season I guess. (Exception being the Moss late season injury but he did his damage for me)
If Owens doesn't get hurt, Moss probably isn't the beast that he was.
If Baxter and Owens both don't get hurt I probably don't pick up Isaac Brown early.. A guy I almost drafted but with two open roster spots figured I might as well pick up 1 of the 2 RB's I almost took with my last pick. (Brown and DiJon Stanley) Stanley the had a good week 1 so I picked him up only to cut him a few weeks later. So I guess even with the bad PS injuries things worked out.
I didn't spend as much on waivers this year mostly because I didn't have to but Brown and Byson Washington were nice for me. Brown finally broke away as the lead back and Washington was really good to cap off my season. Both back had near 200 yards and 2 tds in the title game. Ended up claiming Isaac Brown as championship game MVP because his long td run late in the game sorta broke out a nice lead for me. Could have done with Johnson, McCord, Washington, Brown or even Restrepo but the Brown home run felt like a early game changer for me. Him and Washington were doing double damage early on Restrepo and McCord continued it after lunch with Avery Johnson taking the night shift.
Speaking of rd 24 picks. 9 of 12 stayed on their roster all year. However, looking at it... Savion Williams and Dillon Bell were probably the only two that should have. (Hayes is fine but he is a kicker) Bachmeier I guess probably was a QB good enough for depth. Savion Williams wins rd 24 pick of the season though.
277. Blind Squirrels- Hank Bachmeier, QB, Wake Forest
278. Waxy Frogs- Michael Hayes, K, West Virginia
279. Orgy of Evil- Duce Robinson, WR, USC
280. Drunk Jocks- Kendrick Law, WR, Alabama
281. Winsley's Warriors- Leo Pulalisi, RB, Washington State
282. Heisman Hopefuls- Zeed Haynes, WR, Syracuse
283. Asian Alley Cats- Malachi Coleman, WR, Nebraska
284. California Raisins- Savion Williams, WR, TCU
285. Dawgfathers- Perry Thompson, WR, Auburn
286. Skeet Shooters- Josh Turbyville, K, Tennessee
287. End Zone Divas- Dillon Bell, WR, Georgia
288. Smurf Turfers- Jaquaize Pettaway, WR, Oklahoma
I thought @TonyStavoli had a very good starting core this year. Very tough starting 4. Where I probably got him was the depth especially important in the double bye week.
I will stop blabbing at this point, nobody probably cares as they send their players home and clear out their team housing but would be nice to see others post something in this thread. Q and OSU will...
What are the odds Navin, Seahawk or Guru do? Does Guru remember 3 players on his roster this year?
Again, thanks to all for another fun season.
I will start with my team.
