The AP poll doesn't mean much but the Coaches Poll is 1/3 factor in the BCS rankings, which aren't released until mid Oct., so why doesn't it mean anything? Maybe not now, but on Oct. 17th it will.
I understand win's and loses at the end of the year means the most, but try telling that to the non qualifiers. A higher ranking, with no loss, in the Coaches poll equals higher ranking in the BCS.

Its important I agree, the higher you are now the higher you will probably be at the end of the year. Helps impress recruits as well.

Even if NU weren't in the Top 25 right now, as long as they kept winning they would play for the BCS title come January..

Yeah you would hope so, but with BSU and there auto undefeated season they might be able to make a big case.

The only BCS conference team that could maybe have an undefeated season and still get beat out by Boise would be the Big East, and even that's a stretch.

There's no way Boise will beat out undefeated's from the Big Ten, SEC, Big 12, Pac 10 or ACC.

Common sense will rule the human opinion by then, and the computers will hammer Boise on SOS.

And they should hammer them, no one is to blame for their pussy schedule but there selves. Oh look at me 'Boise' I don't play anyone unless the payout is 1 mil per. guaranteed.

Like a few good seasons somehow makes them the equal of Nebraska, Michigan or Notre Dame.

Boise St did beat OU in the Fiesta Bowl a few years ago. That put them in the discussion. Utah beat Bama in the Sugar Bowl as well.
From that time they've continued to beat middle of the pack (or even better) BCS schools. After one game it's hard to say how good Va Tech really is but the Hokies were preseason Top Ten and are routinely in the ACC title hunt, so that's all anyone can go by at this point.

As long as Boise St, TCU, BYU, and Utah keep winning their OOC games against BCS opponents they are backing up their BS.

I understand the argument about playing those level of teams week to week, but until BCS teams start beating them the discussion will remain open..

So far this season.

Utah beat (ranked) Pitt
BYU beat Washington
Boise St. beat (ranked) Va Tech
TCU beat (ranked)Oregon St

They all passed their tests..Not one of those BCS teams could win against these non-AQ's. WTF?

TCU, BYU and Utah all play each other so there will be gauranteed losses by at least two of those teams.

The only test Boise St has left is a home game w/ Oregon St who already lost to TCU.
The fact that they are expected to win out (uncontested), supports the argument they are a decent team.

Utah did beat bama and Michigan lost to app state but that does not mean their programs are on par with each other. I believe BSU is better than most of the top 25 hands down. I just don't think they will have been as tested or have worked as hard to get to the title game as a bama or texas. So a bama or texas would deserve to go ahead of them.

I wish they would throw them into a aq conference and then see what happens. If they went though the big 12 undefeated I would become a believer.
