Caught a bad break when Curt Warner tore his knee up in the Kingdome. Dude could coach. First coach to start an African American at center. RIP "Ground Chuck."
First of all HTTR my breadren....I was just curious as to why we haven't even made an attempt to take a flyer on a FA safety if it was for the right price. Vacarro, Tre Boston, or maybe Ron Parker. I know we drafted Apke and Montae is coming back from injury, we resigned Deshazor, but can we count on those guys to produce consistently? Just a thought I had since our skins are in a constant rotation at Safety. Hail!!
Cant fix every hole in a single off season.
While our safety room doesnt have any bling (Name power at the position), when healthy our safety group is serviceable with potential to improve.
The thinking has got to be, improve the front seven, and the back four will look better. Now you all know I rarely agree with Brice Allen, but on this one Im kinda in agreement. We addressed the front seven, by both design (Payne) and a little luck (Settles). Worst case we will be drafting a safety next year.
But Im sort of thinking we will be ok this year with what we got.
As long as your front 7 is good it shouldn't really matter who you have in the secondary. Here's where the problem lies: if your DL and LB's aren't very good you're gonna see average to below average CB's and safeties get burned on every play.
Agreed.
BUt for the past 15 years the Redskins have been trying to get by with an average front seven, and lots of star power on the back end,
They have finally over the past two seasons started to try and fix the front seven. I actually like what they are doing. Because to me I could care less if our starting corners and safetys are feature pieces on Sports Center, if the front seven is is giving up 150 yards a game on the ground.
Fix the front seven, safety will fix it self as long as you have even average talent back there.
Eric Reid is still available as well.
It's all a work in progress I get it. We didn't fix our secondary issues overnight either. Our front 7 however has always been pretty good.
Eric Reid is still available as well.
Agreed.
For the last 15-20 years the Redskins have been trying to build the house backwards though.
They dropped lots of money and resources into skill positions (QB, WR, CB, Safety) and ignored the foundation (O-line, D-line).
They are finally starting to appear to be figuring it out.. although I still question some of the players they let go, and their respective replacements.
I'd pass on him too.
He has Colin Kaepernick to thank for that. They're both douchebags IMO.
Kaepernick was truly awful his final season... IDGAF what the stats say his TD/INT ratio he was 1 of the worst if not the worst starting QB in the league his final season.
The race hustlers who cherry pick his td/int ratio did not watch him play his final year... i can almost guarantee that
They all looked past his stats due to the whole kneeling fiasco that spread around the league. I'm glad nobody in the NFL has given him a shot. He doesn't deserve it at all.
maybe they also looked past his stats and to the game tape.... hes in your division. he was really really really bad his final season.
shit blaine gabbert got the nod over him a few times
