Yeah, that's what Tom Singer is saying in his latest blog post on the Pirates' page at MLB.com..... and he's saying INSTEAD OF bats rather than IN ADDITION TO bats.

That's where I was last year. I thought Huntington went after the wrong target when he acquired Lee and Ludwick rather than pitching help. (And it appears that the second half collapse reinforces the idea that NH should have beefed up the pitching staff, rather than add hitters.)

If Singer is right, I believe NH is going after the wrong target again. The 2012 staff is more robust than in 2011, and we have several viable pitching candidates sitting at Indy.

With Morton going down, our rotation is a lot less robust than it was before. While I acknowledge the need for bats, it's more likely we can get sub-par bats already on our roster to go on occasional hot streaks than for sub-par pitchers to pitch effectively.

Until Karstens gets back, we have a three-man rotation. When he gets back, it'll be a four-man rotation. One more arm could be a big deal. If Owens could come up and contribute for us, perhaps we would target a bat, but one or two bats won't help us if we're walking a three-man rotation out there.

I am encouraged... Correia has turned in 2 quality efforts in a row.. and Lincoln was sharp Saturday night for the Win...

I am not saying these guys are all stars..but they can give the pirates at least average numbers and a chance to win some games..

If the Bucs get a starter on the cheap fine! But you know with Corriea and Lincoln not being the type to pitch into the 8th inning this year...I think maybe they need a bullpen arm... So Cruz and Hanrahan are not worked to death.

And if the Bucs get a pitcher... I do not want it to mean that they do not target a couple of bats for this offense.
