Yeah the weird thing is they actually had a few good closers on those awful mid 80's teams. Bedrosian won a Cy Young with the Phillies on a team that I think was way out of first place. They also had Al Holland (Mr T, for another reference you won't get) who was good. And another guy named Willlie Hernandez who was good with the Phillies but they traded him and he ended up winning all the awards for the Tigers the next year. Cy Young, MVP, and they won the World Series. I guess Schmitty wasn't enough to carry them any more.His father was before my time but I've heard his name before. I guess for you (who is older and more irrelevant than me) it's probably like when you heard other Phillies fan (who were even older and more irrelevant than you are) talking about the way Curt Simmons used to pitch.
Didn't Bedrosian win a Cy Young as a relief pitcher in '87? I think he had like 8 or 9 wins coming out of the bullpen that year too. Or am I thinking of someone else?
