‪In a move that will have a ripple effect on all QB-needy teams, Patriots are not expected to trade QB Jimmy Garoppolo, per league sources.‬

Damn are they really gonna pony up and pay him. Bill must really like the guy.

Pretty obvious Jimmy stole Brady's jersey and is only going to give it back if they keep him, so Jimmy doesn't end up with the Browns, 49ers, or Redskins.

The Pats simply wont disclose that because they don't want Goodell to take all their draft picks and tarnish the Pats organization.

With Garoppolo and Cousins any reports that they aren't expected be traded is just hot air.

The only scenario I can see Garoppolo remaining with the Pats is if they fully believe in Garoppolo and they franchise him in 18 and let Brady know that in 19 it's time to hang them up and give Garoppolo the big contract and make him the starter going forward.

In other words, they haven't had anyone offer the farm yet.

The Pats just want better offers. They'll end up settling for a late first/early second rounder and another later pick.

Interesting but yeah I think he will get traded. the Browns have 2 1st round picks, the Patriots would have to be interested in 1 of them.

they are going to lose some guys. long, logan ryan, harmon, maybe (i hope not) butler, hightower...

i could also see bill getting that first rounder and trading down to fill those other holes.

its interesting...

Brady's decline will probably happen pretty quick... I think having JimmyG ready to take the reigns is pretty valuable. The Pats would absolutely need an offer that blows them away to come off that level of certainty they currently have at the QB position.

They'll trade him. IF they get their price.

There's some value in keeping him. Brady may still be on the top of his game, but the guy IS 40 years old. So JG provides some insurance for 2017. Even if he leaves after 2017 for only a comp pick, it gives Brissett another year to get ready and/or draft TB's eventual replacement.

A 1st rounder?

The Pats will turn that into 8 or 9 picks and something will stick. Personally I think he has the potential to be a very good QB. The timing is off by like a year or 2 at most. If they just got him he would not be moved. The issue is in 18 they have to resign him or just let him go. No chance BB is gonna pay big money if Brady is still playing at the level he is.

I found this interesting, Brady and Jimmy G have the same agent. Maybe they know what is really up with Brady. Maybe TB is here only 2 more years, maybe he retires after next. It's not like BB to NOT trade a guy for a 1st or 2nd rd pick, I mean he traded Collins for a 3rd. So I am sure there is a lot more behind the scenes than we know. With Giselle wanting him to retire and him mom being sick....IDK, maybe he hangs them up sooner than we think.

There really was a moment in the postgame celebration, where he was on the ground and Belichick went down to him, that I thought he might really feel this is the pinnacle for him and he may be content. Then he spoke a week later and it was the same thing we've heard for years. But I know in that second I was thinking that I couldn't blame him for hanging them up right now.

Bingo. The Patriots aren't stupid. Brady can claim to want to play until he's 45 all he wants, but the Patriots cannot afford to realistically expect that. Brady is already past the age that most quarterbacks lose it, and when they lose it, it usually goes incredibly fast.

If the Patriots really believe that Gaoppolo is the long term answer, they'd be stupid to trade him at this point.

Why doesn't Brissett get any love? He did an admirable job as the 3rd string with a thumb that needed surgery. I stand by Jimmy G will be traded if not during FA then during the season when starting QBs start going down. As a NE fan I'm happy with Brissett as the back up and drafting another QB to develop. Sure I'd love to keep JG but financially it won't work out for NE if TB plays 2-3 more years.
Patriots will still trade Jimmy Garoppolo if the offer is right, source says

I still think the Browns offer 12 for Jimmy G and the 31. That would get it done in my opinion.

31? Do you mean 33? I would agree that would get it done.

I wonder if Joe Thomas could be back in play for Cleveland? I'm sure they'd like to keep him to help protect whoever their QB is but they aren't one player away from being good. They may not want to give up 2 or 3 draft picks?
