Well I cannot see Oliver being there in the third
Wouldn't surprise me either if he went earlier than that...of all the TE's in this class, he might be the one with the highest upside to become a dominant true Y. But he's fallen to me at that pick in both mocks so far...it is a very deep group. People may be letting TE's slide unrealistically knowing they can still get a good one later. Happens a lot in these mocks.

Not sure Hockenson will even make it to 21, but if he did I would be down with that trade up to get him. A more modest trade up to where he has Wilkins or Fant falling would do quite nicely, as well.

New England Patriots 2019 NFL Draft: Watch out for tight end Dawson Knox
by Tarringo Basile-vaughan 2 days ago Follow @tarringovaughan

With the New England Patriots in search for the next great tight end in the 2019 NFL Draft, this player could be a dark horse replacement for Rob Gronkowski.

T.J Hockenson, Irv Smith Jr. or Noah Fant? Who will the New England Patriots make their new great tight end?

How about Dawson Knox out of Ole Miss?

While the retirement of Rob Gronkowski isn’t all that surprising, the Patriots are still left in a state of flux as far as their lack of big-time playmakers surrounding Tom Brady.

After whiffing on a couple of the top wide receivers in free agency, the focus is now on the 2019 NFL Draft where the team will be looking for both receivers and tight ends.

The good part about Gronkowski’s retirement timing is that this year’s draft has a lot of good tight end prospects which does include the less mentioned and less hyped Dawson Knox.

A Gronk replacement?
No one can replace Gronkowski, but there are players who can create their own legacies in the NFL and it will be up to the New England Patriots to identify that player just like they did back in 2009 when they selected the big man out of Arizona.

Being in SEC Country I have seen him he is a player for sure. But I don't like his gay headband he would be off to P-Town or Ogunquit in no time

Admittedly I don't know anything about him, except from what I just researched.
No 40, 60 yd shuttle or broad jump at the combine. Why?
Some of his knocks were quickness and poor route running.

16 reps on the bench, meh yet some are claimimg strength as a plus for him. Maybe he has amazing hand and leg strength.

Looks to be a project with lots of potential up side.

Early 3rd too rich for my blood unless all the other higher ranked TEs are off the board and NE didn't get one of them.

Or Perhaps the Pats take a TE in 1 then a DT, WR shuffle some pics and take him later. But there are other TEs I like more

Could not care any less where he spends his off field time if he spends his on field time in TD-town.

Bench press isn't the best metric for on field strength, but does usually show who the gym rats are, which does often translate.

No the bench is only part of it. That's why I added hand and leg strength. For comparison sake Gronkowsi did 23.

Phil Perry of NBC Sports Boston came out with his latest mock draft Yesterday.

He is trying to do what he thinks is best for the Patriots. Maybe BB will look at it get a few ideas.

Very interesting read. I liked most of the picks but some were too early, some won't be there. Very thoughtful mock though.....

As a ND Fan I can tell you Boykin is on again off again type player

This draft is crazy. BB with 12 picks. All the rookies from last year returning. Tough year to play arm chair GM. But I'll try.

That's why he's projected to go mid 3rd. Otherwise he'd be a 2nd round pick for sure. There is no debating he's one of the most athletic big WRs out there. As well he's a good blocker and doesn't mind hitting guys. I like that about him and would be a nice fit for BB. I'd really have to see how the draft plays out. Will he even be there at 97? I wouldn't go much higher for him.

As for the rest of this mock. I don't see Hockenson slipping to 21. Are # 32 and 73 enough to get him away from Seattle if he did slip that far? Seattle needs picks but they could also use a TE like Hockenson. if that's the way this played out I'd be a happy camper. I just don't see it. I'd love to be wrong on this one.

I had Isabella early in my mock so I can't really blame him.

I think you can do better at 64 than selecting Christian Miller?

Same goes for Justin Hollins at 101. I think there will still be better inside and outside LBs available here.

No. 134: Devine Ozigbo I like this pick but would also be looking BPA here. Not sure this is a need? A nice to have but if a quality player has dropped this far I may be taking him?

No. 138: Bobby Evans, OT at this point I like taking an OT. You can never have enough and Scar could likely work wonders with this kid.

The rest are all BPA. I'd like to see a hard hitting safety, another WR or TE and DL.

I was going to try and mock this draft it's just so hard to do with the Pats. Often in the past I have heard the quote unquote experts say " Seems like the reached for that guy " but I feel what the Pats do a lot of the time is draft on future need and upside. So a guy that might be a reach in round three because he was projected as round 5 the Pats may like his upside or potential to improve his skill sets where as some guy are drafted at their peek with very little room to improve. In nutshell they draft for the distant future vs immediate need or immediate future, if that makes sense. The are willing to limit a guy two or three years and then all of sudden the guy hits the field and looks great

But we will see what BB does I suspect there will be more than one head scratcher.

Trying to guess a Patriots' draft is like trying to fit a Rhino in a mason jar.

I agree but if some of the players named fell our way I would be okay with that. I have expressed I like Smith from Bama and Thorsen from Northwestern.
