We still need to analyze our 2018 draft - already signed and spent the se4ason on IR.
Now we'll have a bunch more picks - how will this work out?

I'll start with a cornerback:

Chauncey Gardner-Johnson*, CB/S, Florida
Height: 6-0. Weight: 207.
Projected 40 Time: 4.53.
Projected Round (2019): 2-3.
1/22/19: Gardner-Johnson totaled 66 tackles, nine for a loss, three sacks, two passes broken up and two interceptions in 2018 from mainly playing slot cornerback for the Gators. He played well overall for them and was a productive presence in the middle of the field. Gardner-Johnson is a solid tackler and has turned into an aggressive run defender. Some team sources feel that Gardner-Johnson is a better prospect than Duke Dawson, who was the Gators' slot corner in 2017 and a second-round pick by the Patriots.

Belichick has just about made the draft a moot point ... college ball is comparatively closer to HS schoolboy ball than the NFL ...

I suggest all NE fans read Steve Belichick’s (Bill’s dad) book on scouting methods and then understand how Bill advanced those methods to build NFL teams ...

don’t show this to any ‘fans’ outside of NE though ... especially those in the SE ... no chance to get the ideas

I left out all of the Free Agents. Hopefull a few can be resigned. If the patriotscan tag either Flowers or Brown and sign the other, a lot of needs will be met.

Critical needs are OT, especially a LT that is experienced. TE without a doubt has to be looked at and Gronk type has to be located somewhere and work a year or so with Gronk. DT is extremely weak and that may be the place that gets a first round consideration. Shelton and Malcolm Brown could be gone. The last serious spot is WR unless Josh Gordon can come back. If he does, then the rotation will be set. Still another set hands will be needed.

The Patriots will have 9 players coming off IR and 11 Draft picks. I expect that BB will trade at least two, possibly three Compensatory picks. Most likely a 3rd Rounder and 5th.

The Patriots have a ton of work to do.........

My opinion............
Tre Flowers......Pats will do everything possible to re-sign him
Trent Brown...Was a question and became an answer. Too bad BB didn't extend him a year.
Jeremy Hill....missed nearly the entire year and will moist likely resign a one year deal with the Pats.
Phillip Dorsett...will get an offer and test the market. Will probably get more elsewhere.
Chris Hogan.....Will get an offer and test the market. Will most likely sign elsewhere after his piss poor playoffs.
John Simon.....Not in big demand. Better than 50% he'll stay.
Ramon Humber...Same as Simon
Albert McClellan....He might get a good offer elsewhere but I think he'll stay.
Curtis Rowe.....Coming of a knee injury he will not be getting huge offers. I think he comes back.
Jason McCourty,,,,, Depends on what his brother does. His playoff performance was stellar and he'll get offers.
Brian Schwenke....He didn't play much and was a toss off, I think he'll be Andrews back up, maybe replace him.
Ryan Allen.....Patriots might Franchise him. He was outstanding all year and deadly in the playoffs.
Stephen Ghostkowski......Another potential Franchise target. No kicker is perfect, but Ghost is a keeper.

The kickers are almost a no-brainer. They have to be resigned.

Patriots will have about $30M in cap space. They will have to set aside about $10M for the draft signees.

Then comes the really hard part. Brady is a $27M cap hit and extending him until he's 45 could give the Pats at least $10M back. Marcus cannon is a $7M hit and Dwayne Allen is $8M. Gronk is $12.5 and McCourty is $13.4.

I'm pretty sure Benzal is working everything and will have multiple scenarios for Caserio and Belichick to ponder and argue about. I'm pretty sure that there will be some unexpected free agents come June 1.

Patriots have 9 guys coming off IR that were rookies and they 12 draft choices. The only high cost guy is Wynn who will be making near $5M and his cap hit is $4.5M.

Here are three guys that different people think that the Pats might be interested:

Daniel Jones, QB, Duke

With Justin Herbert returning to college, teams will again take a much closer look at Jones, who could be the No. 2 quarterback in this class behind Ohio State's Dwayne Haskins. There's no denying that Jones has the potential to be a very good NFL quarterback. He's sneaky athletic (Jones rushed for 186 yards against UNC) and surprisingly fast when he decides to run. He also gets the ball out quickly and accurately, regularly keeps his eyes downfield as pocket closes in around him, and is able to deliver accurate throws despite pressure. He sometimes struggles with downfield throws but routinely goes throw his progressions, which will appeal to NFL teams. Also worth knowing: Jones plays for David Cutcliffe, who is considered a quarterbacks guru and oh-by-the-way, is close to Peyton and Eli Manning.

Kelvin Harmon, WR, NC State

Harmon is one of the best wide receivers in this class and is coming off his second 1,000-yard season for the Wolfpack. He has the ability to get in and out of breaks, sets up cornerbacks with his footwork, can make contested catches, and is a physical after-the-catch runner who also happens to be a willing blocker.

Noah Fant, TE, Iowa

The most athletic tight end in this draft class, Fant was underutilized at Iowa; he had just 39 receptions for 518 yards and seven touchdowns in 2018 but he's a playmaker in the mold of Evan Engram or George Kittle, and would give the Patriots a much-needed playmaker in the middle of the field.

Doesn't BB usually trade the 32 pick and pick up extra one extra pick? @BigKen you think Fant is more athletic than Smith from Bama

Don't we also have Duke Dawson coming back? I think if that is the case we look at Safety over CB

Not that you are implying this, but it's amazing how dissatisfaction with the Pats drafting abounds, but the winning just continues.

I thought a binkie was a kid's favorite blankets. Or is that a Blankie?

In all honesty, I'm trying really hard not to fall for any college player hoping that the Pats will take him. I've learned that BB and Caserio have totally different ways at looking at college talent and they bring in undrafted free agents that make the team and turn into stars.

I get hooked every year without fail. This year I've decided to do illegal drugs.

I've heard both (more often a pacifier) but the interpretation is the same, something that puts you at ease.
