The Swiss and Ecuador are both on 3 points coming into today. Ecuador was a 0 in goal differential while Switzerland was a -2, so if both Ecuador and the Swiss win, the Swiss would need to win by at least 3, depending on how much Ecuador wins by.

If they win by 1, the Swiss need 3 (2 to overcome the existing difference + 1 that Ecuador would gain for winning). Could go up from there.

If Ecuador and France draw or Ecuador loses though, you're right that Switzerland is in assuming their result holds.
