IMO, the strength of the series so far really is the first three books. But the middle of a story is always the hardest to tell and the hardest to read. That's definitely books 4 and 5. I really feel that books 6 and 7 will rival the first three.

*** semi spoiler (no names, no details, just the number of the book) ***

I got to a WTF-did-this-just-happen-part in book 3 last night and just had to stop reading for ten minutes to collect myself. Those of you who have read it know what part. Holy crap, just so unexpected (even though it's expected that it is this unexpected). I love this series :)

Btw, for spoilers you can use the background color #EBEBEB to completely mask the text, and then use #CCC when quoting.

lol good call on the font color. I know the exact part you are speaking of. I have yet to get to it, but unfortunately stumbled upon it when looking for some info online.

So i've read the first two books and started enough of the 3rd to catch up to where the TV series is.

My analysis of the TV show compared to the books so far is this...
1) If you want more details read the books.
2) I thought the first season was well done and comparable to the first book
3) The second season I thought left out a lot of important information compared to the book that seemed missing. I would have nixed some of the stuff that was in book 3 so that way they could cover more of book 2.

Thats the best description I could give without spoiling anything. The books are still a very good read, I thought about waiting to start book 3 until the season starts... but ya, thats not happening.

I was at a good pace on book three. Then I just stopped. I need to pick it back up. I think I am about half way.

i'm kinda thinking they blended the end of book 2 and the beginning of book 3 at the end of the second season.. i expect the start of season 3 will cover some stuff that happened at the end of book 2

Not the best execution, but the lyrics are fantastic.
