As much as I despise TIME magazine, I think they are spot on this time.

But I do like my plot better. Gendry and Arya cross paths, he makes a new weapon for her, he spanks her because he has wanted to for years, and they ride off into the sunset, opening a string of S&M toy stores.

Why the short seasons? Has to be budget? I don't like series that drag on, but feels like we just entered the end game and we there's plenty that can be wrapped up in two full seasons without rushing it.

They stated there were only 13 episodes worth of material left so that's what they made. At this point HBO would love two full seasons so I didn't think it's budgetary.
I do not mind just 13 episodes but wish they would do one 13 episode season. Now their are rumors the final 6 won't be on until 2019.

That's the part I don't get. Last season they announced that they only have 13 episodes of material left to work with, which doesn't seem like much considering everything that's left to be wrapped up, but figured they sounded pretty certain about it so they must have it all mapped out. But now we are told the final season might not come out until 2019 because the writers need more time for the final season? If they need so much extra time for the final season it doesn't seem like they are very close to having it all wrapped up so how can they be so certain about how many episodes worth of material they have left?

I really don't think it is budget either but something doesn't really make sense to me about all of this.
