I will be in Half Moon Bay for a week in January, and I'm wondering what the best poker club in that area is.

I'm not a high-roller by any means, just missing my online action. Looking for no-limit hold 'em, with like a $200 buy-in ($2/$4 SB/BB), maybe a bit more if that's what it takes.

Bay101 looked OK from their website, but any recommendations would be nice.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Bay101 is fine, you'll get what you need there.

Farther north is Lucky Chances which is IMO the best poker room in the Bay Area.

I just played Bay101 this past weekend, and they have some WEIRD house-rules, so be aware...

For example...

1) Hand signals are NOT binding. I was at the table when player 1 checked the flop, player 2 bet, player 1 called. P1 checked the turn, P2 bet, P1 called, THEN SLAMMED THE TABLE IN A CHECKING MOTION, PRE-RIVER. The river was flipped, and P2 says "OK" and exposes his hand. P1 says he never acted. The floor was called over and ruled that his hand motion was not binding. P1 shoves and P2 mucks.

2) The button is in a blind. The have a 1-2-2 game and a 2-3-5 game where the button is on the smallest blind. Not a horrible rule, just SUPER weird.

3) No limping. If you open pre-flop, you must raise. Again, not a HORRIBLE rule, but I have never seen this rule before.

4) Inconsistent procedure. I saw a hand where P1 checks the turn, P2 shoves and P1 calls. The river comes and P1 has to show first, even though he called P2's all-in. Later, I was in a similar hand where I had position (P2) and shoved on the flop. P1 waited for me, and the ruling was that I had to show since I was the aggressor (I agree with this ruling, except that it was inconsistent with a previous ruling).

I am not sure I will play Bay 101 again next time I am in the area.

Wow, agreed, quite weird. However, in order:

1) As long as you know hand-signals aren't binding beforehand, I'm OK with that

2) The button being a blind is definitely weird, but I could live with that

3) No limping pre-flop - I rarely limp myself preflop, but i don't like that they MAKE bad players play better. LOL.

4) The inconsistent procedure would be unnerving, but it could just be a crappy dealer.

Nice summary - thanks.
