Touch:

I liked it, unique setting and story.

Twisters:

Saw it twice. First time in 4DX.

2nd time, a month later, with both Twister and Twisters in 4DX, back to back.

Good movie. I think the character development was just a little bit less than the first movie.

The first movie ended up being great in 4DX. They should bring back more older movies like this, and show them right before sequels are released. Just like they did with this.

Alien: Romulus

I hadn't seen a movie in the Alien franchise, other than Covenant, in more than a decade. I had forgotten some of the plot details of the first few movies.

This movie helped remind some of those things.

However, wish they had gotten a more in depth, within the movie, about the tie in to the Roman mythology of Romulus.

Some of the call backs to the early movies were good. Just something overall about this movie felt lacking.

The 4DX effects during the gun burst scene was great.

I did like the android character.

Maybe I need to rewatch Alien, then watch Romulus again, to get the chronology flow.

Coraline:

Saw it in 3D. What a weird movie, that became better after it was over and I thought about all of it. The 3D was great.

The Substance:

Very good sci fi horror movie.

One of the changes at the end was unexpected by me. I did not expect the character to look like that.

Joker: Folie a Deux

This movie feels like it might make more sense, if there's a sequel. For example, did we just get an origin for Two Face, at the end?

Is the young inmate supposed to be the next Joker, or the real Joker? I also don't like movies very much where a character we barely know, suddenly has a big role at the end.

It's an ok movie, but also feels like there's some unanswered questions.

Didi:

Great movie. They really got the vernacular of what it was like to be a pre teen.

Reminded me of those times.

Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story

Since I don't like reading plots ahead of time, or watching trailers, I spent most of the movie wondering if Reeve was still alive, or if his wife was.

Good documentary which gave a lot of different perspectives on Reeve's life.

I didn't know he was a director. I want to watch some of his other movies.

The Batman:

Right when I popped in the Blu Ray, I realized I had seen this movie before, 2 years prior. I then realized that for whatever reason, the transaction didn't show up in my "Borrowing History" from the library 2 years ago. But I was able to find an email receipt of the transaction, proving that I did watch the movie.

I did rewatch it again anyways. I liked the style and music of the movie.

Here:

Don't think I had ever seen a Tom Hanks movie in a theater, since Apollo 13. So I wanted to finally watch one.

Good movie, from the same director as Forest Gump.

Red One:

I'd never seen a Dwayne Johnson movie before.

This was a solid Christmas movie, with a unique plot.

I do think they could have done a better job with the father and son character development, and tying in the end of the movie, back to an earlier incident.

Sonic The Hedgehog:

James Mardsen's acting and Jim Carrey's acting seemed too similar. I had actually thought Carrey played both roles, until the end credits rolled.

And I thought it was intentionally done in a similar way.

I did like the setup of the movie, and the use of the baseball field scene to springboard the rest of the plot.

But overall, the plot just didn't seem that special or unique.

Solid movie, but didn't exceed expectations.

Sonic The Hedgehog 2:

I thought they did a great job of advancing the plot a lot. Introduced a lot more stuff from the Sonic universe. And I really like Agent Stone. He was a character created for the movie, but they gave him a lot of depth.

The Polar Express:

First time watching it. Saw it in 3D 4DX.

Another great movie with a unique plot. This movie had good "snow" effects from the ceiling.

Wicked:

The characters were one dimensional and easily telegraphed. The songs, for a musical, were not that good.

Sonic The Hedgehog 3:

Saw it in 4DX. Another solid movie.

The motorcycle scene in 4DX was great, especially just the effect of the motorcycle starting up.

Gladiator:

I had avoided this movie all of these years, because I generally don't like movies set in ancient times.

Didn't think I would like it.

The plot for this movie was good. I liked Joakim Phoenix's acting. Great movie.

Mufasa: The Lion King.

Saw it in 3D 4DX.

Solid musical, good origin story plot.

A lot of "rain" effects due to the many scenes in water.

Gladiator II:

This movie had the right style, in terms of being a sequel. They set up the movie with a solid premise.

However, after a while, the movie just felt like one escalating battle after another. It felt like that's all the movie was going to be.

The characters, and plot dynamics, of the first movie, weren't as good.

And the naval battle scene inside the Colosseum seemed outrageous. However, it turns out, stuff like that did happen, to a degree.

However the movie took it too far, because they also had sharks. And in actual ancient times, they used props to simulate parts of battles. They didn't have outright naval battles in the Colosseum like the movie depicted.

I also didn't quite understand Macrinus' character. Felt like they had him do a turn at the end, just because they wanted a turn. Didn't feel like they did enough to properly build up his turn, and the final battle.

This movie could have been better with different plot choices and character interactions.

Babygirl:

Don't think I'd seen a Nicole Kidman movie since Birth, and Eyes Wide Shut.

It was ok. Felt that the tying in to the dog analogy could have been throughout the movie, and not just the end.

The Room Next Door:

Great movie.

Unique plot about death.

Beverly Hills Cops II:

Even funnier than the first, and I liked how Foley worked with a team this time.

Longlegs:

Solid thriller / mystery movie.

Beverly Hills Cops III:

Didn't like the setting of the movie.

Wasn't as funny.

Flight Risk:

Saw it in 4DX. Was one of the most realistic movies involving a plane I've seen, in terms of what it's like to fly and land a plane.

Good movie.

The Seed of the Sacred Fig:
It was a good suspense movie.

Companion:

This was a really fun movie. I liked it.

Emilia Pérez:

The musical part of it was good. Pretty good suspense thriller type movie.

The Brutalist:

Boring.

I've seen other movies that I've liked with singular themes of The American Dream; Capitalism; or Immigrants in the USA. Just because this movie tried to combine all of them, doesn't make it good.

Also, I didn't realize the theater I saw it in was going to have a tiny screen. Usually I sit in the back. I picked the back, row P. I didn't realize I'd have to read so many subtitles.

At intermission, I asked the box office if I could switch seats. They let me. I moved to Row C. The person next to my left in row C had seen me do that, and then done the same thing, which was move closer.

Much easier to read now.

Didn't make the movie better though.

Riff Raff:

Favorite movie I've seen this year. Good and fun and kept you on your toes.

Alien:

Only 2nd time seeing it, and first since 2013. Watched the theatrical release version. And then watched the extended scenes afterwards.

I liked the atmosphere and how it set up things. I also noticed the line about cornbread.

Aliens:

Watched the Director's Cut.

Another line about cornbread. Watched the Director's Cut. I didn't like how MU/TH/UR was barely involved in this movie.

It was a big part of the first movie.

There's also a gag where I think Newt points her finger at Ripley's chest, then flicks Ripley's face with her finger.

Anora:

It was ok. I get that it presents sex workers in a different context than before. And the life of them. It is realistic.

However, the marriage plot, and Vanya's lack of standing up for his wife Anora, was easy to see coming. Felt like one of those movies where some of the plot happens because characters are dumb or are going in obvious bad situations. Didn't like that part of it.

Alien: Romulus:

Now having seen both Alien movies before Romulus, I could pick up on the overall setting, relationship to androids, and other traits much better. This movie had a line about cornbread too. And also a finger flick to the face gag.

Now having watched it with proper context of the Alien universe, this was a solid movie with enough traits of the other Alien movies.

Black Bag:

This movie was hard to follow. I didn't like it.

As Good As It Gets:

I'm glad I didn't watch this movie with my parents. On the surface, I thought it would be safe. However, the origin story about Simon painting his mom nude, would not have have been safe to watch with parents. Nor the scene with Carol walking through the streets of New York in a wet shirt.

Also, near the end of the movie, when Mel shows the room he set up for Simon, we see one of Simon's paintings, of his mom. However, Simon, as a subject, is in the painting, staring at his nude mom. Why did he put himself in the painting? It's one thing to paint someone nude. It's another to put yourself staring at them nude in the painting. I didn't understand that part.

Simon also painting Carol, later in the movie, also would not have been safe to watch.

I also didn't realize that Carol and Mel were actually going to have a relationship.

So this movie was not what I thought it was going to be like. Interesting movie.

The Penguin Lessons:

Great fun, easy to follow movie with comedic moments.

The Accountant:

I didn't even realize Ben Affleck was in this movie until the credits rolled. The character looked too young. I don't like looking at who stars in a movie, if I can avoid it. So this was an interesting surprise.

The plot and characters of this movie were great. Good setup.

Taps:

It wasn't until the credits rolled that I realized the character that I thought Tom Cruise played, wasn't that character. He had played someone else, who didn't seem too prominent until it was time.

Interesting movie, good plot.

The Accountant 2:

The plot construct was different. The mystery part of it was a little harder to follow. For the first time, I felt this movie didn't use much 4DX. Not until the end. So that part was disappointing, to see it in 4DX and feel like it wasn't used much.

Still, I'm glad they made it because I think this would be good as a franchise, and would like more movies.

The character is that interesting.

I normally like movies where characters team up. But even that couldn't elevate this movie to be on par with the best team up movies I've seen. So it wasn't as good as Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade, for example. It didn't have that kind of feel to it with the characters.

Ugly Stepsister:

Didn't realize I was going to watch a body horror movie. Interesting and explicit telling of a Cinderella like plot.

Sacramento:

Decent comedy. Funniest part might be the first two words of the movie. I might not rate it high overall, but I think there's been a lack of comedies I've seen lately. So when compared to that, it's worth watching if you want to watch a new comedy.

A Real Pain:

Interesting movie with characters. The dialogue and character interactions raise some interesting points.

I realize this wasn't nominated for best picture, but I would have rather had this win, over any of the other nominees.

And it's not because this was my favorite film from 2024. It wasn't. But just when compared to the other nominees for that award, this movie felt like it had a little more to offer than the others.

The Shrouds:

I unknowingly watched another body horror movie again. Decent suspense movie.

Captain America: Civil War

My first MCU movie since Iron Man 3.

I was impressed with how involved the plot was. It wasn't simplistic.

Captain America: Winter Soldier

Pretty good, but it took too long into the movie for the Winter Soldier to do stuff.

Also, it's starting to get annoying how there's references to other MCU series outside of Captain America. There's references to events in those movies.

Black Widow:

Pretty good dynamic between the characters.

Thunderbolts:

I generally like movies where a group of different characters come together as a team. So this was good.

Probably the best of the 4 MCU movies.

Sinners:

I liked the setup of the characters and environment.

I then thought the movie would either be more of a horror movie, which it wasn't really until the end.

Or I thought that if the movie had just focused the idea that blues music was evil, I would have enjoyed it more.

One of the shootouts at the end was good. But I wish the main fight wasn't so racial.

Karate Kid (2010):

This was a good homage to the original. It had all of the same heart and references.

Only thing that was a bit unrealistic is that these were 12 year old kids doing these advanced fights. That seems a bit much.

The fight scenes were good. A lot better than the first few movies, which were fine for their time. But I also cannot believe that 12 year olds can do these fights.

Also, there was a friend character who wasn't mentioned again after the first 20 or 30 minutes.

Final Destination: Bloodlines

Hadn't seen a Final Destination since # 1 or 2. This was really good.

And I finally got to see a horror movie in 4DX. This was one of the most crowded movies of the year, and the audience liked it.

The Amateur:

Good action - thriller - revenge movie. You have to suspend disbelief and remember it's a movie.

Once you do that, good fun movie. And I liked Rami Malek and Laurence Fishburne.

Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning (rewatch):

I didn't remember anything from this movie so wanted to rewatch it before watching the sequel.

I liked it a little better upon a rewatch.

Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning

A little too many references to past movies, and by past movies, I mean the first Mission Impossible. Referencing Dead Reckoning is fine.

Referencing the first movie, that was too long ago. I don't remember what happened in that movie.

Also, they didn't explain enough what happened 30 years ago when Ethan Hunt first encountered Gabriel, and who he was trying to save.

Also, it's a little anti-climatic that Ethan Hunt was doing all of these stunts, and then NOW Gabriel does one wrong move.

It was too easy of a death, considering they had spent several minutes doing more dangerous stunts.

Still a pretty good movie, but also had some aspects that could be improved.

Mickey-17:

The ideas were fine, but they could have taken this movie in a different direction. I just didn't care, by the end.

Presence:

Might rewatch this, I wasn't paying that much attention. Didn't seem as intriguing as I thought.

T2 Trainspotting:

Considering this movie takes places many years after the original, I think they did as good of a job as they could have with the plot.

If you liked the first, then this 2nd has all of the same feel.

The Next Karate Kid:

I hadn't seen this movie since 1995, when I had HBO back then.

The movie was a lot funnier than I remembered. Maybe I was too young to understand the jokes back then.

Final fight could have been better, and the final scene could have been more polished.

Other than that, I enjoyed this movie. It was different enough, and I liked the humor.

Karate Kid: Legends:

This movie was too short. It needed at least another 20 - 25 minutes to flesh out some of the missing scenes, relationships, or consequences.

Also, this was like two different movies. The initial plot with the kid teaching the adult seemed like the better plot, and that alone was different enough to make it worth watching.

Then it seemed like they said screw it, let's get the "Legends" so it can be marketable. But all of that felt rushed. They could have had the Legends and still maintained the original premise of kid teaching the adult.

Maybe the legends help the adult.
