Whitecaps to sign the MLS's first African Designated player ... could be a shot in the arm for the struggling team

The Vancouver Whitecaps are set to unveil their latest signing at a Tuesday morning press conference with strong indications he will be a prominent African forward.

Nigerian journalist and national team press officer Colin Udoh tweeted Monday evening that Major League Soccer's first African designated player would be announced today. He added that the player captains his national team.

Sources told the Province that the player is a forward, which puts to rest, at least for now, all the rumours of out-of-work and oft-injured midfielder Owen Hargreaves suiting up for the club.
