If anything we should be putting more money into space exploration and developing technology. Estimates generally agree that the earth doesn't have the space or the resources to sustain the current population for more than a few more centuries, not at our current standard of living anyway.

I think we'd be better off putting our time and money into cleaning up our current planet, developing efficient desalinization technology, and figuring out ways to reduce polution and create renewable energy. But that's just me.

I don't disagree. However, good luck convincing Big Oil etc.

Stop living in the past, Eddie. This planet is done. Time to move on!

It all needs to be balanced. Space exploration (and research on remote parts of your planet) should not be done at the expense of initiatives to improve our understanding of Earth.

It should also not be done purely at the expense of human endeavors such as controlling population and AIDS relief. There needs to be a balance.

As a scientist (one who in fact has worked peripherally on Mars related issues) I love this stuff. I just want to see other important programs continue to thrive.

Just MO.

I had no idea we have multiple scientists on SportsHoopla. Sounds to me like you and Darkstone need to have a good old-fashioned...

SCIENCE OFF!!!

LOL. He's still learning and I've forgeotten 90 % of what I learned.

He's a much more hardcore scientist than me. I just love the polar regions of the earth. Some of those happen to be the closest thing we have to Martian landscapes.

Mars is nice. Lin's Garden is a solid Chinese joint up there. Nice community center too. And a Starbucks!

Canadian scientist eager to begin ?detective work? with Mars rover - The Globe and Mail

canada has a piece on Mars as well bitches.

The APXS is about the size of a pop can and is attached to Curiosity’s arm. But its small size is misleading: This device is designed to determine the chemical composition of rocks and soil. If that doesn’t sound terribly exciting, consider this: The bits of rock and dirt Curiosity finds in its sojourn on the red planet will tell us whether there was life on Mars, when there was life on Mars and what happened afterwards.

CANADA - FUCK EH!
