In all honesty I think this is more a move to screw the Mets over, I don't think they actually intend to sign him. The Nats outfield is pretty loaded and they have a lot of money tied up in underachieving performers. This was probably leaked by Roc Nation to put the pressure on the Mets and try to gain some leverage since nobody is offering Cespedes north of $100 million.

I don't know what's dumber, that a superstar would break his hand fighting an equipment manager, or that the Clippers, who are worth $2 billion and have 6 guys on the roster making $5 mil+ including 3 making $15 mil+, would go to Jack Astors for a team dinner.
