The roster stinks and the manager can only do so much, but Ryno wasn't very good himself as a manager - the decision making and handling of the players showed that he was out of place as a manager

Now Ruben needs to go next

Watching ESPN and they just had an All Star Game commercial.

"Rule 34 - It's hard to speak softly when you carry a big stick"

Oh, you guys. How could you NOT know?

*warning: If you don't know - DO NOT google "Rule 34 ESPN"

I mean it. Don't.

Compare Adeiny Hechevarria's and Jose Reyes' stats and keep in mind there are still people who defend that fucking trade.

It bothers me tremendously that Kershaw and Kluber are not All-Stars. It bothers me tremendously that Kershaw is 4th in the final vote. It bothers me even more tremendously that Kluber wasn't even included in the final vote.

I guess I can kind of see Kluber not making it, since his ERA is sitting in the mid-3's (although it's inflated by that horrible Cleveland defense and a corresponding .338 BABIP, which is legitimately absurd), but he's also second in baseball in IP, Ks, and fWAR, and 4th in each FIP and xFIP. If you limit to just the AL, he's second in IP and FIP, first in Ks and fWAR, and third in xFIP. Plus, he's the reigning AL Cy Young winner. That's an awfully impressive in-season performance coupled with an awfully impressive history, and I just don't see how you leave that guy off the All Star roster, basically punishing him for playing in front of an inept defense.

Kershaw, though, has a sub-3 ERA, so you can't even point to that to justify his omission. He's third in baseball in fWAR (second in the NL), third in FIP (second in the NL), first (by a huge margin) in xFIP, leads all of baseball in Ks, fourth in IP (second in the NL), his walk rate is elite, his ground ball rate is very good, and if he hadn't been victimized by an absurd number of the few fly balls he allowed finding the seats early in the season (a rate around 20%, which almost always suggests external factors playing a big role), he'd probably be one of the favorites again for the NL Cy Young. And he's won three of the last four NL Cy Youngs and is the reigning MVP. How does a guy with that track record, who also happens to be having one of the best seasons in baseball at his position, get omitted?

Ugh.

Okay, my rant is over.

It bothers me (not tremendously however) that John Gibbons is still managing the Blue Jays...

Not his fault his GM doesn't get him a better rotation. Nope, they needed a shiny new catcher who is on equal footing with the old catcher offensively but can frame pitches so that the shitty starters are marginally less shitty.

He did cost the Jays by not subbing Reyes out the other night, though that may be because he did it the week before and Reyes might've gotten pissed/bitched to AA.

He's just way too laid back for my liking and I think the team takes that approach (at times) from the manager, if they win, great, if they lose, no big deal. I just see a 83-79 record after 162 games and no post-season once again.

I like those post game scrums with reporters in his office where the camera angle shows he is literally laying back in his chair lol

You may be right, but to fire him now makes no sense. You could put Bochy or Gerardi or whoever in that dugout and nothing will change.

The Jays' team ERA has been in the bottom third of the AL for all but one year of AA's tenure as GM (they were 9th in the AL in his first season). I'm sorry but that isn't a manager problem that's a GM problem. AA has no idea what he's doing when it comes to pitching.

They'll be better than that if you buy into Pythagorean records (expected W-L based on that absurd run differential they have) and the projections. And honestly, the division is so wide open, they might not need to be much better than an 88 win team to win it.

And it's not even like they've got good pitchers underachieving. There simply isn't much pitching talent in their rotation.

This is like the equivalent of saying an NHL coach doesn't yell enough from the bench or a soccer coach doesn't go to the touchline often enough. Meaningless.
