lol yeah, like Stephen Strasburg is really going to get traded

We offered him the heavens and he declined. Bet the number of $$$ will be staggering.
Sad to see him go.
$210M/7 years.
However, it's going to be paid over 14 years (how is that allowed??).
That's a large amount of money for a 30 year old.
Woot!! Best rotation in the Bigs bar none!
I have a feeling Rizzl isn't done yet. Good signing though because I don't think we will keep Zim, Stras, and Fister in the long run and I don't think Gio will continue to be what he once was.
There's a chance they move Strasburg, actually, and then try to sign Zimmermann long-term. I guess there's some friction between Strasburg and the front office still because of the shut-down.
Also, trading Strasburg will return astronomical value. You could fill your second base hole, add to your bench depth, and restock the farm system all at once, and still have a top two (and maybe still the best) NL rotation.
imo, I think it's a bad idea moving Strasburg - Nats fans will revolt big time - but that's just me

A few notes on the situation...
(1) Jordan Zimmerman is the better pitcher on the team. Stras has the better stuff when he's at 100%, but he gets frazzled at times. J-Zim is a rock. Solid outings and innings every start. He's the true ace of the staff and his ERA, record, WHIP show it.
(2) I'm not saying I think they'll move him this offseason. Strasburg is signed until the end of 2016. I think if they move him it will be next year. That's when Fister and Zimmerman have their contracts up (at the end of the comign season and they'll have to make some choices for the rotation going forward. I would guess they'll use those big four this season - Stras, Zim, Fister, and Scherzer. But I think Gio and Roark are both solid pitchers (Roark would have been a rock star on a lesser team, 2.85 ERA, averaged over 6 innings per outing and a WHIP of 1.09 in his rookie year) with trade value. Or perhaps you are right D'stone and they move one of the four bigs and they upgrade at 2nd base or bullpen or both. I can't see Zimmerman going anywhere though.
(3) To Cobie's point on the fans, the arrival of Strasburg was HUGE. It jumped the team from also ran to contender, but he's not exactly a fan favorite at this point. He's been WAY overshadowed by Harper who has a high ceiling like Strasburg, but a personality to go along with it. So with the staff we have, I don't think anyone would get upset if one or another wasn't there. Frankly we have six excellent starters and whoever are 5th is would be 2nd or 3rd on most teams.
Did they pay too much for Scherzer? I don't know, but who cares - its baseball, not hockey or football. And the last guy everyone said we spent too much on (Werth) has worked out REALLY well.

And here I was thinking maybe the Mets could have the best rotation in the NL East. Braves and Phillies are in rebuild mode, Mets and Marlins are not quite there, Washington needs to go all in and go for it now. Much like the Mets I expect them to move a starter to fill holes in their lineup during the year. Or maybe somebody goes down and you're thankful you have all those guys.
I think the Marlins are there - they made some really nice moves in the offseason and I love what they got going there - before Giancarlo got hurt late in the season they were close, I doubt they were going to make it anyway but they were close before he got hurt
Their rotation is very, very strong and the lineup is getting better too - I'd watch out for them
I debated whether or not to put the Marlins in the contender category but decided to wait and see before I go ahead and say they are a threat for the playoffs. They will certainly be competitive.
