I'll never support paying a reliever that much money. There's been one consistent reliever in modern day baseball, and the Sandman ain't coming back. That said, Samarda;sldfjalsdjfa deal is pretty good. They're contenders now, no doubt.

Pirates signed Frankie Liriano to 3 years $39M. Very good deal, especially with the Lester numbers being thrown around. At the very least it's acceptable market value, and at the best it's a bargain. Sets up the rotation quite well: 1. Cole, 2. Liriano, 3. Burnett, 4. *Volquez (rumors they're moving on to him now), 5. Locke/Morton/Worley. That's very good, actually.

I'd rather have another lefty, sign Brett Anderson or trade for C.J. Wilson or (ideally) Cole Hamels.

CJ Wilson's deal isn't the best. Brett Anderson's name has cropped up though. Hamels will probably cost too much in a deal.

I think we're at the point where we need to absorb some extra dollars here and there if it makes the team better. Wilson profiles well for Pittsburgh, he could play up to that contract here.

If we're just going to sign someone, and we don't want to stay on the second tier (McCarthy and Santana are the two arms left on Liriano's tier), Anderson's probably the best option. He's a better pitcher than Volquez, and he'll probably cost less to boot.

I'm with you, and any pitcher leaving Coors Field is bound to have a nice bump in their numbers. Although, was he hurt this year? I only see 8 starts. Another name cropping up a lot in the relief area is Neshak. Yes to that. Really need a lefty though. Makes me wonder if, should the Pirates sign another starter, they don't try to move some of the excess (Locke, mostly) for LH relief.

Jimmy Rollins has officially been traded to the Dodgers

J-Roll, thanks for all the memories in your decade in a half with this team - you brought this team a championship and made endless memories that will last for a lifetime - remember when you said the Phillies were the team to beat in the NL East and you ended up backing up with one of the best season ever and leading the Phillies from 7 games back with 17 games left to win the first division title in forever and then leading the Phillies to the World Series the very next year? And then the time when you effectively knocked the Dodgers out of the playoffs with a hit for the ages in the NLCS? Those were the best times, the absolute best times and I loved every second of it and will never forget it

J-Roll, go get that ring in Los Angeles - thank you for the memories and thank you for this:

"I thought you said we didn't have any high priced talent"
"I forgot about Lester because he's only high priced"

"Cubs? If you're going to pull that shit, at least say you're from the Yankees."
