my thought is if they are bringing J. Long back to play right tackle you can get your guard in the second or third round. Get your center in free agency, and you still have added an impact player on defense.
The problem with this plan is that it doesn't address QB

We have a quarterback problem? Lol. we could still get a quarterback in the third round but I'd rather get a one in FA. I just would rather have an impact player with the 10th pick. Guard in 2nd, center in FA, BPA in 3rd. If Sam doesn't restructure we might have to get our center in the draft though. Shouldn't be a big deal center in the second guard in the third.

Mack is more of a 4-3 OLB than Dupree is however. Is Dupree at least adequate in coverage? He's being described as an edge rusher (3-4 OLB). I don't think he's a good enough fit in a 4-3 to spend a 1st round pick on (and I doubt he lasts to the Rams' 2nd). If the Rams are going to pick a LB early, he should be a better scheme fit IMO.

Greg Robinson is going to have to live in the Pro Bowl for me to not be really disappointed with that pick.

Would you be more comfortable with Jake Matthews, who also struggled last year?

No. Its just that Mack and the top 3 WRs that year are going to be really good for a really long time. Bridgewater might also be in the league for awhile, too

Sure, but if we think we need OL now, we would be totally up the creek without Robinson. Unless you think they shouldn't have drafted Donald?

I wanted Mack but I would hate to think about our OL right now without GR even with his struggles. I think he will be ok.

I'm sure there would have been options. That trade the Bills did for Sammy Watkins would have been nice.

What the Robinson pick allows, though, is the luxury to not need a LT picked. That means pick 10 can be anyone.

I liked Dupree before the combine but his 4.5 speed and 42 Vert, 11'5 broad jump... Blew me away for his size. Those are better numbers then Ogletree and we know he is a freak. Yes he can cover he is a 3 down LB. I would think he would stay on the field in passing situations and take JL55 out. Which would keep him fresh. Peter King has him going to ATL at 8 now.

But like Clayton said I don't know how much the Rams value that OLB position. especially with Baron in the mix now. They like to play that big nickel. He would be able to take over for C.Long if needed though...

I think he's much closer to being a 4-3 DE than a 4-3 OLB.

yep

Rams could've traded with Buffalo and taken Donald at #9 and Martin at #13 and had 2 1sts this year to address QB or continue fixing the OL.

yeah that would have been sweet but at the time we were desperate for a playmaker on Offense and Austin looked to be the answer. still a dangerous player.

Shop this is one thing i don't get? yes he played 4-3 DE for sure. but what makes a guy a 3-4 VS 4-3 OLB? he's big so why couldn't he play strong side and he's blazing fast (4.5 40) and can cover.

Don't see Mariota sliding past NYJ and CHI. Someone will trade up if that happens, or maybe if he even gets to WAS.

At least 2 if not 3 OL have to be replaced. The good new is that it wont be real hard to up grade Joseph and Wells. Barksdale had a bad year but in part that had to because he played next to Joseph. If Barksdale leaves I think we have to go OL 1st. If he stays, OLB. We definitely need OL, OLB and QB.

3-4 OLB are pass rushers first and foremost. They are typically quicker, smaller DEs in skill set, without the ability to drop into coverage or work their way though blockers to stuff the run. 4-3 OLB are typically smaller with more agility and coverage ability, almost like an oversized strong safety. 4-3 WOLB (weak side, or the Will) are typically faster, chase and tackle guys, while the 4-3 SOLB (strong side, or the Sam) are bigger to stuff the run.

Dupree is currently listed as a DE prospect by CBS, btw. Regardless, with the Rams playing a big nickel (with Barron essentially playing LB) a large percentage of the time, that 2nd OLB (after Ogletree) is essentially a part-time position, like a nickel corner, and as such doesn't make a lot of sense to spend a 1st rounder there when there are much more glaring holes to fill IMO.

Thanks for breaking it down. Yeah Barron fills that roll pretty good. I agree we do have bigger holes to fill I just want to see that beast running around like a madman on the Rams D lol.
