Jumbo would take more than Spezza I think, I know Spezza is good but Joe is better. I would think at least a prospect or draft pick would go with him

Lot of variables, Joe is 34, Spezza is 30
but Spezza has only one contact year left, compared to three for Joe.
I think the latter factor carries more weight in terms of trade value, as you don't want to give up too much for a UFA

Hours before the Stanley Cup finals began, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman proudly proclaimed that concussions are down across the league and there are numbers to back him up.

According to data from STATS provided to The Associated Press, there were 53 concussions during the regular season, a sharp decline from the 78 reported during the league's last full season two years ago.

NHL says concussions have decreased, but protocol remains imperfect - ESPN Chicago

Hmmmmmm...I hope that it's an actual decrease. Wonder how suspension numbers look this year, in comparison. The protocol isn't necessarily bad, but the implementation is awful. If the MDs and ATCs were worth their salt and not easily swayed by coaches, the protocol wouldn't be as necessary. They just need to take their time and monitor the guys. It's honestly not hard too often to tell when a guy is concussed, but then there are the guys who have headache and irritability, and if they don't tell you, you're sort of screwed. Work to do, but glad that the numbers are down.

tsnscottcullen: RT @MFlynnRaleigh: Sunny Mehta was just appointed Director of Analytics for the New Jersey Devils!

tsnscottcullen: Hmm, Devils go with stats guy who is widely-respected among hockey statheads. Interesting approach.

Cullen can be just as swarmy as Dreger. Hockey analytics are a valuable tool, but they are not the be-all end-all, but according to Cullen, if you criticize analytics, you're a dinosaur.

Guy 1, sitting in stands looking down at 3 ring binder. Feverishly flipping pages.
Guy 2, scars on his face, sits quietly and watches the game.
Guy 1; "it's obvious that based on Corsi, possession, advanced stats, matchups and game splits while this goalie is in, that the Leafs will win this game."
Guy 2 looks at scoreboard - Sens 4 Leafs 1. 3 to play. Shakes head.
Guy 1; "I mean honestly" *chuckles* "Chris Phillips is like a 4 on this stat, and Phaneuf is a 7.3 SEVEN POINT THREE! It's not even close. Especially in Saturday games when the Habs are also playing."
Guy 2 nudges guy 1 and points to game going on.
Guy 1: *Looks briefly at game, then at scoreboard then back at binder* "How is this possible, I mean the power play efficiency equation alone is enough to-"
Guy 2 stuffs binder in Guy 1's Corsi.
