Huh, curious what his role would be then

I like Larry Robinson so I am happy to hear of the extension but I am also curious as to what his role will be if not an assistant coach.

I wonder if he'll be some type of scout who is looking for d-men specifically? I don't know why he wouldn't be back as an assistant, I know they want to make big changes but to me he doesn't seem like one of the issues

Maybe he will take over for Todd Mclellan for the playoffs. Mclellan coaches the regular season, Big Bird coaches the playoffs?

Robinson is definitely not one of the problems. The improvement in the defense this year was undeniable (especially for Vlasic). My guess is that there is either a severe need that he can fulfill in another position (scout of whatever) or he doesn't want to be the assistant coach anymore and get away from the teams rigid travel schedule.

The schedule is an interesting point, wonder if he initiated this idea or the team went to him in some way - the fact they're giving him a three year extension tells me they still like him enough

Little more on the Umberger situation. He doesn't seem to see eye to eye with Richards.

I am not sure how accurate this is. I didn't think teams had any penalty for compliance buyouts.

It’s unlikely the Blue Jackets would opt to buy out the remaining three years on Umberger’s contract. That would cost them roughly $1.55 million per season for the next six years.

Solid move Blues. Elliott deserves a shot to be a #1. They need a reliable backup in case he cracks, but Elliott is a solid netminder.

The main reason Larry Robinson left the Devils coaching staff for San Jose was to be with his family in the area (I believe he has a daughter and grandchildren there). If I had to guess that probably played a role in him not wanting to travel with the team.

Dubnyk is a .906 goaltender in 140 AHL games played
