tsnscottcullen: Talked with NHL team exec who assailed all use of analytics as worthless, claimed team would never use them. Team in bottom 3rd of standings
For those of you who say Hank is overrated. Easily the 2nd best goalie of this generation, behind Marty. And that's with getting a late start in his career.
In his career, Henrik Lundqvist is 300-191-61 with a .920 save percentage and a 2.27 GAA.
From the 2005-06 season (Lundqvist’s rookie year) to now, Lundqvist ranks:
Other goalies who have played at least 500 games since 2005-06 include Marty Brodeur, Roberto Luongo, Ryan Miller and Miikka Kiprusoff.
- Games played: 1st with 560
- Wins: 1st with 300
- Minutes: 1st with 33,031
- GAA: 4th with 2.27, 1st in goalies who have played more than 200 games
- Shots against: 2nd with 15,649
- Saves: 2nd with 14,398
- Save percentage: 6th with .920, 2nd in goalies who have played at least 400 games.
Since 1990, Lundqvist ranks 13th in wins with 300 and second in save percentage, behind Dominic Hasek’s .922, with .920
He got a late start too, the fact that he is putting up these numbers as he got a late start in the NHL is impressive. The fact that he played on some Ranger teams that were non-descript for a while and then became better and were really good around him. He has to be considered one of the top players, in the last 15-20 years, he has to be considered in the top 7 or 8 goalies that have played in the league, he has been fantastic. (Pierre McGuire on TSN 1050)
Ever?
Hockey wasn't created in 1990, Doc.
Did you see where he said in the last 15-20 years, that he may be the best ever? Meaning in that span.
I read that differently. I took it to mean one of the top players overall in the last 10-15 and one of the top 7 or 8 goalies ever.
King Henrik is also first in LOSSES since 2005-06 with 191
Do you remember those post-lockout Ranger teams? LOL Without Hank, we don't even back into the playoffs as a 7th or 8th seed. Outside of Jagr, teams were horrific.
so the losses are on his teammates but the wins are on him?
when you dig deeper the career numbers arent all that far away from Bobby Lous and you dont see anyone proclaiming Bobby Lou the "greatest goaltender on earth" (at least not in the past 5 or 6 years anyways)
398 more shots against in his career than Bobby Lou ... thats just over 0.75 more shots per game (over 500 games) ... big whoop
0.002 better save percentage than Bobby lou ... thats a difference of 30 goals (over 15000 shots faced) ... big whoop again
Do people remember the last three games in that series against the Devils two years ago, Henrik Lundqvist, who's supposed to be one of the best in the game, choked? He gave up 3 or more goals in each of the final three games after they had a 2-1 series lead - and don't blame it all on the team in front of him, they scored plenty of goals to win the last three games of the series and he didn't come up big against them
At the end of the day, we know he's a great talent and has racked up really good stats, but don't use that as your entire argument when it's obvious he hasn't gotten it done in crunch time
I'll take Jonathan Quick over him any day of the week - and for those that want to rip Jonathan Quick for not having great regular season numbers the last few seasons, it doesn't mean anything because come playoff time he IS the best there is in the NHL - if you're really a great goaltender, you'll get it done no matter what
