My guess is no. Have a feeling the Marner/Rantanen/Point/Laine group perceive themselves as a notch above Keller. And they are.

Unless a team thought they could sign one of the elite RFAs for $7M, this wont move the market. Probably solidify the players views on their worth.

I mean realistically, if Marner merely wanted "a notch above" money to commit for 8 years he'd be signed already, no?

Absolutely.

Some of the names of unsigned RFAs surprises me. Some like Marner do not. I anticipate several will be sitting on the sidelines come Thanksgiving (Canadian, and heck maybe US).

Toronto media keeps insisting it's because all of the RFA's are waiting for Marner to sign to "set the market".

Which means every RFA is going to miss the entire season, apparently.

If people want a better reason why so many RFA's haven't signed, this probably has a lot more to do with it:

Guys may be weighing whether or not to sign short or long based on how this is going to play out.

So, I feel like a broken record every year, but do none of you all play in a Fantasy Hockey League?

I was in a dynasty one that fell apart, and I need a replacement.

Wonder how much it has to do with CBA uncertainty? No one wants to sign the "Bobby Holik" deal that everyone points at as the prime example of why the next lockout happens.

Need some insights to connect the dots.

If there is a connection between the CBA and unsigned RFAs, I am guessing the theory is that RFAs dont want to sign long term in the hopes the next CBA creates a pot o' gold for players (?) and they want in on it.

Or maybe the RFAs do want long term deals and the teams are anticipating the new CBA will be more restrictive and these long term deals with handcuff the teams????

/probably would help if I had a better sense of where the players and teams are, term-wise

Also they may want any deals to be heavy with “guaranteed” lockout proof bonus money as opposed to regular salary :noidea:

That's been happening already anyway though.

Of course, that's harder to get from more budget-conscious teams (Aho had to sign an offer sheet to get it from the Canes, for example) so could definitely be what's holding up guys like Laine or Werenski.

Honestly, I'm too damned lazy to get into one where you need to set lineups and actually pay attention
