Vegas is interesting. They still have the Clarkson contract for one more year! I suspect they want to resign Engelland, but doubt they could pay more than the min. He might be OK with that.

They have 12 forwards signed now, not including Karlsson. My guess is they make a lot of noise about resigning him, but are probably hoping someone gives him an offer sheet and they happily take the draft picks as comp. With so many teams under the cap, I can see this happening. If one were suspicious, you might want to believe that the League might quietly push this, to prove, you know, that there is no collusion and RFAs can get offers.

I dont see any other RFA or UFA forwards they care about keeping. So I dont see Vegas needing to make any moves other than letting Karlsson go. Sure, they have bad contracts they might want to dump, but doesnt every team?
Forgot about Clarkson down there. That probably means they can keep one of the guys I mentioned.

Jackets have 32m in space to sign Werenski, Murray, Duchene, Dzingel and Korpisalo.

I think they can do this.

Some other random cap-related moves:

-Pittsburgh will trade Kessel but should sell high on Guentzel, too. Gives them plenty of space to add on the market & manouvre via trade.

-For a team so up the chart in cap spending (about $70m once Hossa's on LTIR) Arizona should probably have a much better team than one whose top two centres are Stepan and Schmaltz.

-The Hawks have good young players and cap space for the first time in a while.

-I'm very interested in how the Ducks handle their shit this spring.

I thought this last year and we literally did nothing but I think the Devils are in really great shape to make moves. Draft Hughes, promote Ty Smith and then make at least 2 big acquisitions (top pairing D, top 6 forward).

With 3 second rounders they have some trade currency. Also think Zacha could have some value as part of a package (possibly for another change of scenery candidate). With Ty Smith likely getting promoted Butcher also becomes a bit more expendable.

The first will happen and unfortunately a discount will occur due to the addition of one of the many horrible D contracts.
The later is a very unpopular idea in Pittsburgh due to the chemistry with Crosby but if they get a great haul it is worth it.

As for the Hawks it is amazing they can say that. On top of having the young talent they still have Kane/Toews but I bet they wish they could get a taker on Seabrook or Keith.

Brick Nelson is a 0.5 PPG player for his career and just got 50 points in a season for the first time at age 27. He gets a 6 year $36M contract. Yikes.

I'm sure they'd love to hold onto Guentzel but you need to work with what you've got to plug the holes. The beautiful thing about Sid is you can find a slightly-above-replacement player to slot alongside him and count on him for 50-60 pts. Gotta think the cost savings and value they can get in return makes it hard not to move him.

Keith's deal isn't horrible, it's long but manageable. Seabrook's is bad but not much they can do about it now. At least their cap situation has improved to the point where they can actively try to improve the roster now.

No one on my team makes that much. Yet.

I hope that's not the benchmark for extending Dzingel...

Amazing the Hawks, right now, will only have 8 contracts on the books after next season. They are finally in a better spot.

With Guentzel what hurts for his hit, not only all the garbage on defense, but a 32 year old Hornqvist at 5.3 for four years and Rust at 3.5 for three years. If a taker can be had for either of those two Guentzel is manageable for the long-term.

Tampa is probably the team with the cap issue. $8.6M of space with only 10 forwards and 5 D signed. Obviously Brayden Point uses up most all of that. Coburn, Girardi and Stralman are all UFA. Going to be a real challenge to keep even 2 of them.

If they have any sense they'll cut Girardi loose. Probably Coburn too.

They'll look to trade Palat, IMO.

But still yeah.. fucked.

I'm loving the hate and the content here but why so much vitriol for the Bolts? Is it because they finished ahead of your two favourite teams for the division crown? :spy:
