No idea what the article says but figured this might be fun: what was the worst version of your team you ever saw?

the Canucks were god-awful in the 70s and most of the 80's
from 1970 through 1991, they topped 80 points ONCE.

the theme song used to be....
I'm a loyal hockey fan, I love the Vancouver Canucks
And I don't care if the lose they're always worth the bucks
And I won't grumble if they should stumble, or if they should fumble the pucks
Cuz I'm a loyal hockey fan, I love the Vancouver Canucks

(way to set the expectations!)

but I would still pick the first Kennan/Messier year as the darkest (97-98).
64 points, but it was much more than that.
we were hours away from signing Gretzky, until ownership fucked it up by not giving
the man a night to sleep on it. and then gave the same $ to messier in a panic move
we had Linden, Mogilny, Bure, Naslund, Courtnall up front.
stripped the C from Linden, and blew the team up
had to surround our great leader with his own people... Noonan, Zezel, etc
turned the team right around into a 58 point year

Also, Erik Karlsson was -3 this afternoon.

Thomas Chabot >>>>>>>> Erik Kriersson

FACT!!

Seriously though I don't think EK's head is into the game right now. I think being traded was tough on him. He'll snap out of it in a couple games.

Yeah I could've gone with basically any Leafs team from 2006 to 2016 but there's always one that just leaves a god-awful taste.

A question about that season/era, though - the Canucks didn't have a goalie in the top 20 sv%-wise in any of those years. Even if they had gotten Gretzky, that stays as a problem that they obviously weren't capable of solving no?

as a current season leafs fan, I'm sure you can appreciate the fun in outscoring your problems.

assuming no blow up, there a potential for a top six of
Gretzky, Bure, Mogilny,
Linden Naslund Courtnall.

Yeah but even at his worst Freddy is just a tad bit better than Garth Snow...

“I’ve already sent a couple emails to Kay Whitmore,” Elliott told the Philadelphia Courier-Post, referring to the NHL’s vice president of hockey operations who signs off on goalie equipment changes. “I’m getting bruised like crazy on my arms. I think that’s the biggest issue, they take away padding in the arms. It seems like every shot that you take that’s not clean on your blocker or in your glove, it’s leaving a mark.”

Psst: Your arms aren't meant to stick out an extra inch to stop pucks, Brian.

If by obscene you mean a whole lot of 8-7 games, I completely agree.

Haha, yes that's going to happen a lot but imagine the Leafs adding another point a game potential guy to this lineup. It's ridiculous. What sucks is they will probably wind up trading him and getting a marginal Dman in return. Damn this sucks.

I keep seeing this name on this forum. It's like you guys are trying to sell us a 1984 Buick in MINT condition.

Damn I thought the Leafs were going to be held scoreless for the first ten minutes. Thanks Mitch!

2003-2004 if we are talking about just one year. The whole 1980s if we are talking about an era.

Wait what? Lemieux put up like 900 points in the 80's in Pitt. And he only played about half that decade.

The Penguins were the worst team in the NHL for the decade of the 80s, even with everything Lemieux did.

Points by year of 73-75-45-38-53-76-72-81-87-72 3 playoff appearances and 2 winning records.

I could say just the 82 through 85 era. But even though it was great to watch Mario, it still sucked to lose most games.
