Yeah but I'm not younger. I have a family. So it blows. I see my kid about 2 hours a day.

Anyone looking for a seasoned insurance professional who likes bourbon and hockey?
Seems extreme, but I guess I'll take your bourbon-swilling hockey fan of a kid off your hands. Could always use more drinking buddies.

So Hamonic wants to move as close to home as he can for Family reasons. I wonder what the Jets will offer. I have no interest in Byfuglien. I imagine there is a ton of interest. However, I'm sure Garth will try to trade him as close to he can if the deal makes sense. I doubt Travis Hamonic will be given away.

I'd love Big Buff but only if he came with 2 more contract years.

Moving Hamonic for Buff is an upgrade, good as Hamonic may be or wind up being. It would immediately make the Isles a better team.

Might be a deal that's made after December. Standings would matter at that point. Jets might want to dump Buff at that point if they feel they are out of it. But I also know that the Isles probably want to move Hamonic sooner than later. So in conclusion, I have made no point and may God have mercy on my soul.

No it wouldn't. Not with the contract he wants. I would prefer a deal for Trouba or younger players. The Jets have the best prospect pool in the league. The question is whether or not they want Hamonic & are willing to give up the assets Garth wants to get him. Garth has apparently known that Travis has wanted to be traded for 2 months. Trades are never easy.

Regardless of the contract he wants, the trade today would make the Islanders better today. If they make that deal for Buff and he walks, they better be damn sure Pulock, Mayfield or someone else is ready to make the jump full time.

I don't see Trouba getting any better paired with either Hickey, Strait or deHaan. Do you?

The contract has no bearing on if a 1-for-1 trade would make a team better today. I'll take Byfuglien over Hamonic any day, and you should too.

I wouldn't give up Trouba for Hamonic, and Chevy sure as shit won't. And why does the return need to be "younger" guys? How much longer are the Isles going to stockpile "younger" guys for? Does this team ever want to actually contend? Or is the plan to just keep getting prospects so that when the older once-prospects need to get paid the Isles wind up with a cap crunch and no success on the ice to show for it?

Hamonic is good, but maybe temper the expectations here - he's not a prolific point producer, he likely isn't a top pair guy on a contending team, and the Isles are at an extreme disadvantage because they're the ones stuck with a player who doesn't want to be there right now. His contract is really, really good, but that doesn't mean teams are going to overpay. Or even equally-pay. If I'm Garth Snow, I'm looking to put together something big and include Hamonic as a piece of the puzzle rather than go 1-for-1, package Hamonic with say Barzal or MDC or whoever and get a superstar or two in return. Problem is, I don't know if any western teams have the pieces to do such a thing.

The Islanders can't afford to let a player like Hamonic who has a GREAT contract get away for a player who's a pending UFA & be left with nothing if he walks. Garth has known Hamonic has wanted to be traded for 2 months. He's not going to trade him unless he gets a trade he's happy with.

The deal doesn't have to be younger guys. However, it can't be straight up for a player who can walk at the end of the season. The Islanders can't afford to be stuck with nothing for a player like Hamonic. He's far to valuable for that to happen. At worst Hamonic is a #3 or #4 defenseman on a Cup contender. Let me put it this way. He would be absolutely perfect on the Blackhawks right now. Garth isn't going to give him away.

Yes, I know Hamonic has said he's prepared to play the entire season with the Islanders. If Garth doesn't get a deal that makes sense, Travis might do just that.
