He's from the Winnipeg area, yes? That Vancouver commute could be a tough one. Hell, isn't Toronto closer to Winnipeg than Vancouver is?
Maybe his fam relocated further west?

If not, a Gardiner for Hamonic deal could work, if the Leafs could throw in Lupul :D

I realize it's not as cut and dried as I'm stating in in this post, but as a direct result of Nino's actions, another player was sent to hospital. A former NHL referee looked at the play and deems it worthy of suspension. The DOPS doesn't even want to call in Nino for a hearing. What am I missing?

The NHLs response (through Dreger I think...?) was that the injury was a result of the door opening, not the hit. Maybe they're right, but it's assuming a lot that it wouldn't have been detrimental if he had just hit the boards. At the very least I'd like to see opening the door off limits. What I read today also gave some illuminating points about DOPS and injuries: if they're going to suspend someone they take injury into account, if not they ignore it. Interesting tidbit there. All I know is the puck is long gone, it was a full extension to the numbers at a high speed, and poor luck Olli Maatta is out 3-4 weeks...and that's lucky. Like Fraser said: it's not always about intent. Is it nice that Ni o didn't intend to hurt Maatta? Sure. Doesn't change the fact that his neglectful hit resulted in a dangerous outcome. Hold players accountable. That's the point, right?

NHL's plays of the week is always entertaining, but last week's installment was particiularly ridiculous...

What a bad break for the Isles. It's not an injury but just knowing one of our best defensemen and most likable players on the team will likely be on the move. Before JT got named the Captain, there was a big push from some Isles fans to consider Hamonic. He's the epitome of what you want in a defensemen. I understand being homesick and I can completely respect the fact that he wishes to be closer with family.

I just hope the return is there.....

They'd have to get Buffy re-signed first, methinks. But it does make sense.

I would think that a deal with Buff would also have to include a few more contract years. Hamonic for Buff with him pending UFA makes no sense for the Isles. But Buff for two or three more years surely would.....

They've really fucked this up, haven't they. Playing for 12,000 a game. What a disaster.

It's a complete disaster. The Long Island practices and BK games are absurd. They need a rink in BK and just be done with it. You can't have guys commuting to BK on game days at 9am because of travel.

They need to move back to Hempstead.

Would really depend on whether or not Buff wants to test the market or not. Maybe last summer's relative restraint by GM's would have him consider an extension more than it would've a year ago.

Then again, a GM could do a lot of team-building with guys like Buff, Stamkos and Kopitar on the market. Some emerging teams have a lot of money available. Might be different.

They need to move back to Hempstead.

They moved there under the guise that it's proximity to NYC would be appealing. "We'll attract more free agents now"....Ummm not as long as practices are on Long Island and players have to commute 2 hours on game day, get a hotel in BK that night and then commute back to Long Island for practice.

A move back to Long Island has never been more clear. This is a fucking mess. Get out of the lease and move back.

The Isles seem a little more established than in past years so I am PRAYING Garth doesn't gamble and make a deal like that with the expectation that Buff will love BK and they can win him over.

Ridiculous idea but I think the NHL DOPS should be able to suspend/fine for irresponsible play.

The Maatta-Nino non decision is nothing new. According to the league and its video reasons for some suspensions and against some suspensions - some players have to be accountable for their reckless actions if they cause injury, others do not.
