Thing is if you see Dubnyk more reminiscent of Lundqvist, Bobrovsky, Schneider, Quick and Rinne or Ward, Luongo, Smith, Howard, Lehtonen, Pavelec, Backstrom...

Obviously Minny sees him as the former. For their sake I hope they're right.

Yeah I'm not saying I would have invested 6 years in him, just that it's not like he was never good.

No, he definitely wasn't at fault for the clusterfuck that occurred towards the end of his time in Edmonton, much like blaming Phil Kessel for what happened in Toronto this season is absolutely moronic.

He's had one winning season (with the Wild) and one .500 season. Now, I know that it was mostly in Edmonton, but in his time there he didn't make a significant impact on the team's fortunes.

I know he's got talent, all I am saying is his abilities might have been a teensy bit inflated in Minny. I could probably post a winning record behind that defense. Plus, Trotz said he had some terrible practice habits when he got to Nashville.

6 years is a ridiculously strong commitment to him. Hell, the Jackets gave Bob a bridge after he won the Vezina.

Moving on from Kari Let-them-in?

The Stars today are expected to announce a three-year deal for Antti Niemi in excess of $4 million a year. The 31-year-old net-minder made about the same for San Jose last season and he can become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, so it’s market value for his talents.

“The Los Angeles Kings today have exercised the team's right to terminate the contract of Mike Richards for a material breach of the requirements of his Standard Player's Contract. We are not prepared to provide any more detail or to discuss the underlying grounds for the contract termination at this time.”

Dean Lombardi with the curveball. Get ready for this offseason's soap opera.

I said it in the offseason thread, but there's no way he gets away with this move. It's perfectly clear what his intentions are, and he could've easily alienated some guys from heading to LA. You sign a contract or trade for one, and you must be held responsible for it. Simple.

I am guessing no cap relief in any event.

No, it'd come off the cap (speculatory based on some experts on Twitter). Again: it's clear the intent. Between him and Voynov they're in trouble, he regrets not buying him out last year, but that's his own damn fault.

NHLPA won't let this go quietly, unless Richards did something extremely stupid.
If Kings get away with not paying Voynov (fair enough) AND Richards... hoo boy.

GMs are either pissed or ecstatic at this. It's a very peculiar situation - they might be happy to have a new out to use, or they might be pissed that Lombardi is getting to use an out he shouldn't be able to use.

Jared Boll's contract says he is paid to play hockey. I don't know what he's doing, but it ain't hockey. Is that a breach of contract too?

No, no, no. Why would a team that just decides they don't like a guy NOT get cap relief? It's not like they had a chance to amnesty buyout on the contract. It's not the Kings' fault. They are victims, and the league is here to calm them down. It's what the league is here to do.

I mean look at how smoothly the league dealt with the Devils when they had a player who just didn't want to play no more. No penalty at all.

Wait...

Need that Oprah picture. With this, Voynov, Pronger's trade, etc

YOU GET OUT OF A CONTRACT! YOU GET OUT OF A CONTRACT! EVERYONE GETS OUT OF A CONTRACT!
