One last note about meetings: expect to see some clarification on the compensation issue when the GMs and Board of Governors sit down in Las Vegas. Some of the biggest supporters of the idea didn’t expect it to involve Dan Bylsma or Peter Chiarelli, who were fired by their previous teams. Mike Babcock? Yes. No question.

I think this is a good idea. I'm all in favor of some type of compensation for hiring a system guy, but I don't like teams being able to hold on to guys they've already fired just to keep other teams getting them.

If they don't fix that, I foresee a type of situation where teams are signing coaches to long term deals even if they expect to fire them just so they can either a) keep them from going elsewhere or b) get something back from them.
