I'm reasonably certain I know at least one team that would vote against that.

At first glance, I agree, but that was a pretty horrible contract that Louie Lams managed to get away from and as the old saying goes "time heals all wounds". The other thing to consider is that the NHL wants to crush the KHL, what better way to do so than to welcome back one of its best players.

From Wikipedia Ilya Kovalchuk - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Retirement from the NHL[edit]

On July 11, 2013, Kovalchuk chose to quit the NHL at the age of 30. Although Devils General Manager Lou Lamoriello knew that Kovalchuk had been considering retirement since before the 2012–13 shortened season, Kovalchuk's departure came as a surprise to the public. Upon his leaving, Kovalchuk had $77 million and 12 years remaining on his contract. Kovalchuk claimed that he desired to return home to Russia along with his family, though it is speculated that money had quite an influence as well, due to the higher total salary Kovalchuk will receive in Russia via the far lower Russian tax rate compared to the U.S. With the crash of the Russian ruble in December 2014, however, that no longer remains the case, and Kovalchuk's tax-effected NHL salary would be greater than his KHL proceeds.[22][23] Kovalchuk tallied 417 goals and 816 points in 816 games in total in the NHL.[24]

Damn, Wikipedia is FAST

So who will sign him? Toronto, mebbe??

So Vladimir Putin works for Gary Bettman! It all makes sense now!

Should Kovalchuk decide to come back he would be pretty much in demand.

Exactly. One of my staff just lost her mother at 50. Found some blood clots in her legs, and it went to hell quickly after that. Very sad. Bonne chance Pascal.
Blood clots are a fuck. My best friend's mom (who's basically been my second mom since I was 12) had them in her legs a few years back and struggles to walk around doing basic stuff. She's early 50s and that's way too young an age to have those problems.

I had emergency surgery to have a blood clot removed when I was 14. Came pretty close to losing part of my leg so I cringe whenever I see news regarding blood clots. Hockey shouldn't even be a thought considering the threat of stroke or the fact they'll be pumped up with blood thinners for the foreseeable future.

That wasn't to insult her or anything, I've had type 1 for over 25 years now and had a problem with a clot in my leg before I was even 30. Very common complication of a very common disease (well, really type 2 is way more common but same complications)

I know. My kid cousin has been Type 1 since she was 5. I'm always telling her parents to get her special socks and whatnot for fear of the possible later-in-life complications.

Diabetes is one of those ailments I'm almost positive they have a cure for but withhold it to make more money off the meter and strip and insulin industries. It's infuriating.

Huh. Must be a Leafs fan thing.

Type 1 for 34 years here. Still don't like Bobby Clarke though.

I buy my strips off the internet now. My insurance company seems happy to pay $1 (or more) a strip, and my co-pay is like 30 - 40%. I can buy the strips myself for around 22 cents.

I do hope your cousin is on a pump. I am convinced all children with Type 1 should be on one (all Type 1s should be, but you have to start somewhere).

So if Columbus wins their next game they are only 1 point behind the Devils and they'll be even game wise. How about a winning streak Columbus? Carry that momentum into next season ya'know?
