Which brings us to two items:

1) If you're trying to extend a guy you just brought over and endured a terrible season with, maybe offer him more than his current deal did?

2) Everybody and their grandmothers knew Vanek was going to Minny. Well, except Garth Snow, apparently.

I will address neither of those items.

I would have happily taken Edmonton's 4 first rounders. No guarantees they suck as bad with Vanek on board (then again, it is the Oilers), but with two 1st overall picks in that mix, that would have been nice.

I would have happily taken Edmonton's 4 first rounders. No guarantees they suck as bad with Vanek on board (then again, it is the Oilers), but with two 1st overall picks in that mix, that would have been nice.

I never quite understood why they matched. The funny part is Buffalo still wound up with Edmonton's first rounder in 2008.

The first and Boll for Kessel? I would do it.

Then send Dubi, Anisimov and Johnson to Edmonton for their first. Climb up a bit to finish 17th - 19th and then Edmonton "wins" the lottery. I would laugh until I died. THAT WOULD BE AWESOME

I like to see the Devils win but they may be shooting themselves in the foot here, unless they go on some historic tear and make the playoffs (not with this offense). They're 6-2-2 in their last 10 and Schneider has been playing out of his mind.

Also, that 4th overall pick a few years back, Adam The Swedish Hammer Larsson, has been playing outstanding hockey, probably our best blue liner. Pete Deboer hated this guy for some reason, he was healthy scratched most nights, to the point where Stevens likely left the team because he wanted to play him. Deboer is gone, Stevens is back and Larsson is a beast, coincidence?
