Oh, and to clarify; this is the message I just sent to Jarmo Kekeleinen re: Johansen.

This is why players shouldn't have NTC's - look at the Kings, they don't have one player with an NTC/NMC - other teams have a wad of them

They are also paying all of their players market value (or what was considered market value when they signed). Kesler took less money from the Canucks in order to "keep the band together" and improve in other areas. I'm not his biggest fan but I certainly don't begrudge him looking around and saying "fuck this" and asking to be dealt to the team of his choosing.

It was quite an enjoyable ride this year.

I think that's the sticking point. CBJ want him to be an RFA at the end of the next deal. His agent wants him to be UFA.

I hope the quotes in that article are false. If not Johansen seems a little pissed and comes off as a bit arrogant.

He's a great young player and the BJs should sign him for 5-6 years. That's a compromise that could work. Ryan's next contract is in UFA but he gives up a couple of UFA years on this contract.

With all the progress the Jackets made last year they should just get this resolved quickly.

I don't know if the quotes are from him directly or if it's his agent. This is the exact same thing that Bob did though, and the Jackets called the bluff. I'm not worried, really. The worst case scenario is some team throws an offer sheet at him and the Jackets match it. Not many teams have the cash to really throw anything crazy at him and the Jackets have 18m in space at the 69m cap, so I doubt there's any way they can be "out-priced". And Johansen has to know if he goes that route, the pressure will be triple. I think the Jackets will dive in on a solid winger in UFA tomorrow and make it look that much sweeter for him.

He could very well play an entire season between Horton and Jenner or Hartnell. Maybe someone like Moulson also. If he gets an offer sheet from NYI or BUF, that's not quite as pretty. Lines right now could realistically be:

Horton - Johansen - Jenner
Foligno - Anisimov - Hartnell
Atkinson - Dubinski - Calvert
MacKenzkie - Letestu - Tropp

Skille, Frattin, Dano, Anderson, Bjorkstrand, Wennberg, Rychel and Boll all possible.

And there is talk of trying to add Moulson, Jokinen or Cammaleri to the mix.

Offer sheet would have to come from a contender to be worth it because those 4 first rounders would be a mighty large price to pay.

JD and Jarmo would match any offer sheet submitted for Ryan Johansen...

Just looked up the agent, he also represents Dubinski and Comeau. Probably explains why the Jackets have not had a discussion with Blake and are just flat out letting him walk.

I thnk the fact that Comeau is a terrible hockey player might have something to do with it as well (lol).
