Do you actually believe that having the league's second-best PK or scoring the 6th-most goals in the league had nothing to do with making the playoffs?

He catches a lot of shit for game 7, I agree, and it wasn't all on him. But he played his part, and I haven't seen a whole lot of confidence coming from the guy since. On the plus, maybe that's a good selling point, the whole needs a change of scenery theory.

Do you believe that a goalie with a .924 SV% somehow wasn't an enormous part of that penalty kill?

From the stats on this article, the conclusion is that per 1000 shots Bernier gives up considerably fewer rebounds than Reimer, even if the writer is stating it's insignificant.

I've also banged my head on the table watching Bernier far less than I did watching Reimer.

60 extra rebounds per 1,000 shots is probably fewer than 2 per game (it would seem to be a bit of a guess how many shots during a game are "initial shots" so it's a little inexact) . 41 extra slot rebounds is probably around 1 per game. Personally I don't think that's "considerable".

If the Kings sign Christian Ehrhoff, I'd imagine they'd have to move Robyn Regehr(Florida would be a good fit, they want veteran d-men) and then sign Ehrhoff to a 1 year deal where his cap hit is 2 million but the bonuses would be an extra 2-3 million, and assuming the cap goes up nicely for 2015-16, the Kings won't have a problem with that rolling into that season - it would work too and I think the Kings would be very interested in him

you can only do bonus contracts on ELC's or where a player has missed significant time in the prior season due to injury.

Oh yeah, I forgot to add +35 deals
But for regular contracts, there are no bonus provisions

So if you're under 35 they can't sign for that?

Right. And for completeness, only one year deals are bonus eligible for +35 players.
So it's ELC, coming back from serious injury (100 days on IR for a player with 400 career games), or one-year +35 contracts

I see, so it's going to be tougher to do it - I don't know how Dean Lombardi would do it - tough situation

Either way though, Ehrhoff shouldn't be asking for more money considering he's getting paid handsomely to not play for the Sabres

Why would Ehrhoff want to sign a one year deal? He's going to have a ton of interest and tons of better offers.

I don't really see what one has to do with the other.

Of course your goalie is always your biggest PK'er. But it helped that the team was facing 4 less shots per game the season before last.

I don't wanna beat a dead horse, I know there are guys who didn't see Reimer as the issue (myself included at one point) and made a good argument via his stats and the general direction of the team at this time last year that he needed better guys in front of him, not to be benched. I just watched too many games get away from him this year when he took the reins, and like I said before I don't think the guys in front of him play with the utmost confidence when he's backing them in net. You said that makes you blame the players not the goalie, and you have a valid argument, but I don't think that's a new issue that only the Leafs deal with; I would put teams like Pittsburgh and Vancouver as having had similar issues recently with a lack of confidence in a goalie that is prone to some pretty basic mistakes and that goalie's play affecting the rest of the team.

Can I ask, do you at least rate Bernier as a NHL starter given that it's almost certain now that Reimer won't be back?

Looks like the Leafs and Habs have a deal in place for Josh Gorges pending his waiving his NTC. This is an odd one...

Blue Jackets: Johansen talks are at an impasse | BlueJackets Xtra

Maybe Spezza will reconsider and come to Columbus...

Oh wait, this is Twatwaffle saying it. So it's all the agent trying to squeeze the team for longer term and Twatwaffle being a willing patsy.

Johansen has to realize that he had a great season and could be a part of a great thing. But he did split last season between clubs and did get benched in the AHL in the playoffs. Now that did seem to motivate him, but take a 3 year deal and do it again this season. He'll get an extension if he does. Look at Bob.
