Um…can't do that? Isn't that why Vinny couldn't come to Toronto for the purpose of a buyout and Tampa had to do it themselves?

I think they can, but neither of those teams can re-sign him post-buyout.

EDIT: I'm 99% sure of that, because I think the hope was that Tampa would re-sign him.

Then why didn't it go through? Unless Tampa came to their senses and realized it wasn't worth the draft pick (that ended up being Jonathan Drouin and could've been Seth Jones)...

It actually is cheaper to buyout Gagner than Purcell due to their respective ages:

Younger than age 26 at the time of buyout, 1/3 the remaining value
Age 26 or older at the time of the buyout, 2/3 the remaining value

Gagner is 24, Purcell is 28.

Tampa have used their two compliance buyouts. The buyout hit would still count against the cap. Doesn't make sense for Tampa to buyout.

Yeah, I don't get why they would want to buy out Gagner anyway, he's still a young guy who likely just needs a fresh start with a new team.

amazing he's only 24.
also amazing that he missed out on the Oprah-style $6m contracts in Edmonchuk.
and amusing that the beginning of the re-build is moving on after 7 full seasons, and they are still in re-build.

and amazing that he went from Edm to TB to Phoenix in the space of 90 minutes.

Do you believe the players on the roster played with any sort of confidence with Reimer in the net this year?

So do professional hockey players sometimes just pack it in when there's a different goalie?

If there were in fact players on the roster that actually did that (I don't believe that there were), then I'd say that they're the problem.

And I believe that Reimer actually had a better SV% post-Olympics than Bernier did, so I'm not sure why their confidence would have gone to shit.
