In OT he decided that was the right time to finish a check on Trocheck while in the Canes zone. During that check Trocheck got his stick up in Letang's face. And naturally instead of getting back in the play he decided this was the perfect time to rough Trocheck. Even if Trocheck did hit him back the refs will never call that penalty in OT. The only way they would is if Trocheck dropped his gloves or was overly egregious like Letang's actions.
