With the NFL it is about money and Super Bowl 50 sounds a lot better than Super Bowl L. Much easier to sell product that says 50 instead of L when it comes to sports especially. This is not them trying to cater to the idiots this is about money.

Roman numerals were primarily there to up the extravaganza when the NFL was fighting for more market share, historically. Super Bowl L is just... awkward. They'll go back to numerals next season is my guess.
