Carta - Samuels .. the same backup he has this year.
Don't think he's improved from his redshirt freshman year? You think other than Browning having 2 years under his belt that offense is where it was Petersen's second year?

Everyone knows UW is going to run the ball when he's behind center. Rodriguez has a way better arm imo .. it would be nice to see him in a backup roll for once.

Maybe, regardless, if Jake is knocked out on the first play of the first game, I'd like to think they'll realize they need to do more than run the rest of the year.

Me also, but Petersen gets super conservative when Browning isn't in there.

Experience is the best teacher. For Ohio State, this would mean a tough loss at home to a non-conference opponent then B1G and National championships. But only if the 2nd stringer gets hurt @ scUM

We're fucked. We had two backups transfer so now we only have 2 scholarship guys at QB and the other is a true freshmen.
I think Oregon still finishes better than last year if that happens but not as well as they could if Herbert stays healthy.

The last time we lost our starting QB, Rhett Bohmar, we just moved a wide receiver over and won the Big XII. No problem.

The time before that we lost our Heisman QB, and moved Landy Jones over there and can't remember what happened exactly.

Then the time before that when we lost our starting QB, Jason White, we moved Nate Hybl in there and won the Big XII no sweat.

Then the time before that when we lost our starting QB, Troy Aikman, we moved Jamelle Holiway in there and won the National Championship with a true freshman.

It really ain't no thang.

Way too early to know who the backup is, and that may change from week to week if the others move past Samuels.

In either event, this isn't the same team. There were plenty of Sark's kids that were not fully vested in what Petersen's group was doing. Not all were troublemakers, but they still were not "OKG's" and it showed.

Petersen relies on a balanced offense. We have seen plenty of examples of breakdowns if either the running or passing game doesn't at least give a threat of danger to open things up. Of course they need to pass the ball to keep the running game effective. And honestly it can't be as bad as it was back when the team was forced to start a true freshman for the first time in program history. They have now worked with all of the rest of them for several years or at least their entire time here. No more trying to change culture or new terminology etc. They all know what is expected and how to prepare.

You also have to take this years schedule into question for the purpose of this thread. It is one of the weakest I can ever remember having. Entire garbage OOC, no USC, and their conf road games are Oregon State, Colorado, Arizona State, and Stanford. They get most of their more challenging games at home. That changes the dynamic a lot for a backup QB.

In his 4th year there is no excuse for that outside of maybe the game it happens. He (and Smith) should have a good enough grasp of what they have to work with to adjust in this scenario.

I suppose if nothing else we can agree that hopefully this isn't something we have to find out.

That West Virginia Retard Transfer is my guess.

6'7, 270 lb RS freshman Cole Kelley would likely take over.

But without Austin Allen we probably go 4-8 no matter who is under center.

I remember that kid when we were recruiting him. He seemed like a poor man's Tim Tebow. I commented at the time I thought he was a better fit for you guys.

If you get in a shootout good luck. If it's a dogfight where you are grinding out a win you are in decent shape.
