I was in Iowa City on Friday and stopped at the Wig & Pen to see my friend, Dick Querry. Then the Dark One walked in. Nothing had been scheduled. However, he did have some good information about the expansion plans in BCS conferences.

His friend in the south, Harry the Hat, called him that morning to tell him that the SEC might pull the trigger before the Big Ten or the Pac Ten. Harry said that Mike Slive, the Boss Hogg of the SEC, has been talking to Texas A&M and Virginia Tech. A&M is tired of being the little brother to the Longhorns.
Florida does not want FSU or Miami in the league to share all the money of the SEC TV contract which will be renegotiated upward if teams are added. A&M would add the Texas TV markets while Virginia Tech would add the DC/Baltimore market.

That should leave Texas free to join the Big Ten without the A&M tagalong. The Shadow thinks the Big Ten will add more in the sunbelt with Georgia Tech. Rutgers, Maryland and Notre Dame would complete the league at 16. BC is a possibility but the Domers may not want another Catholic school to share in the grab for TV dollars.

I'll believe it when I see it. Right now there are very few scenarios which make the SEC more money per school. Like the Big Ten's expansion, the 12th team is more easily justified because of championship game potential revenue. The 13th and beyond do not have that justification, so it must be a very high quality athletic program. Texas A&M could be a possibility under the right plan.

The only way I could see them adding more than 12 is to pick up TV Markets (which like vtpoop says knocks out FSU, Miami, Clemson, GT as all those states are covered by current SEC teams). There are a TON of Hokies in the NoVa, DC, Maryland area that could possibly bring in some revenue.

That is awesome. It shows he is dedicated and hard working not to mention smart.

As for VT going to the SEC, it would be very interesting. It makes sense from the SEC's standpoint to add the Nova/DC markets which will bring in more money. It would also create a huge rivalry with Tennessee. I could see this as a real possibility since it adds the massive state of Texas and a further reach to the north to their markets. I'm not sure how I would feel about it overall though yet. If they pull the trigger on that move, it will create a ripple throughout the college football landscape and start making a change towards the 4 - 16 team BCS super conferences.

Reading a lot of the other threads and forums and all the SEC fans want them to get TAMU obviously and either OU or VT as the 14th with most votes going for VT. Kind of cool they want us. I've heard our stance is we will stay in the ACC but you know how that goes especially if more money is involved going to the SEC. Anyone have any idea the money breakdowns for the conference TV contracts etc and what the expansion to 14 teams in the SEC would do to the split of their revenue?
