Didn't say that but until he learns to cut down on his swing he is too much of a liability to try and carry on the MLS roster. Right now the only thing he would bring to the Rangers is the seasonal individual strikeout record. Put him at AAA with a hitting instructor who beats self-discipline into and bring him up in 2018 or 2019. bringing him up now is not doing him or the team any good
You said he should be blocked from making it up here "for at least the next 2 or 3 years". That is pretty much a waste of space. Anyone who has been in the organization for as long as he has and to not even consider him being ready for at least 2-3 more years pretty much means you have given up on him. I would imagine he would become a minor league free agent by that time anyway. You said 2018 above, but in your original statement you indicated well after then.

"We expect to contend and win," Daniels said. "But not at the expense of the franchise. When you go all in, you have just one directive. When you rebuild, same thing. What we believe we can do is put a mix of both those. We can put a good product on the field and keep the integrity of the system intact. We have a challenge ahead of us, and we're going to work through it."

Straily tied for most HR given up by a NL pitcher in 2016 and the guy he tied with threw 37 more innings. JD does love NL pitching though.

JD is a master with words. No way we contend with the current rotation and the absence of Desmond or Gomez. Don't know about Choo if he can avoid injury. No first baseman of name. So let's not be fooled. JD is up to something.

"Completely undecided. I'm not leaning one way or the other. I have no strong feelings that he should or shouldn't be in. At some point I'll sit down with all the stats and whatnot and go through it. I will say Pudge (Rodriguez) does not scream out "First ballot" when I hear his name. Doesn't mean I won't vote for him. And I doubt the PED issue will color my view."

Henry Schulman, San Francisco Chronicle

Japanese star Shohei Otani wants to play in MLB in 2018

Under the new CBA, Otani would not be subject to that rule once he turns 25. That won’t happen until 2019, though, meaning Otani would have to wait until then in order to receive a massive contract.

With that said, there’s some evidence MLB may tweak the rule for a player as talented as Otani. Our own Jeff Passan says executives have already discussed ways to skirt around the rule for Otani.

I just hope he doesn't go half way in like 3 years ago. Go all the way one way or the other.

Right now we could not trade him for a two headed penny but we can't do anything till we know for sure. If it's 1/2//3 yrs who knows but he has no business at ML level yet. Let's wait and see.

Godspeed, Big Mitch. Thank you for the World Series dongs.

Despite my disappoint with what I had hoped he would accomplish here, I still think he gave us 100% and I wish him the best, regardless of which team he goes too.

You watch, he'll end up in Cleveland and he'll probably play lights out for Francona and the 1st base curse will continue to haunt JD.

As long as he doesn't go to Toronto. lol

I wish him the best. He was my hero in the 2010 WS when every hitter but him seemed to be overwhelmed by the moment.

Wow, this surprises me. Earlier it appeared all but done that he was headed the Nationals way.

But it sure looks like the White Sox got some very nice young players in return.
