From the onset it doesn’t look bad at all, even if they get shafted in the money they send to the Mets, it seems like a solid deal.
Is it? The deal has become a bait and switch + M’s sending a whopping 60mil to the Mets.

Hell no. For the love of god, scrap this deal Dip....

So, just doing the math real quick...
Cano was here five years.
We've already paid him $120 million.
We are giving the Mets $60 million.
That's a total of $180 million.
He was here for five years.
That's works out to $36 million a year while he was here.
And then if you want to subtract the half season he was unavailable because loves his roids, that would be $180 million for 4.5 years which works out to $40 million a year.

This obviously hurts the return. I kind of thought getting all three was a pipe dream. With that being said if there was one that I would choose to take out it would be McNiell. He is the most major league ready yes but with a team thats a couple years away minimum, I can live with that. The biggest positive on him was that it would make it easier to kick Dee Gordon to the curb. Hope that happens regardless.

However just another example Dipoto never being the one holding the cards

not getting the right stuff in a trade is number one mistake
when the whole come on was
a R/R 2b
they are letting those east coasters bait and switch them
for a guy they did not want to trade to start with

line up .??

I'm fine with taking on salary for the next 2-3 seasons since the M's aren't going to need that cap room to be contenders. So taking on the Bruce and Swarzak contract is perfectly fine if it means adding to the insanely shallow prospect pool. The only part bothering me is paying Cano $12M per season in 2022 and 2023.

I wonder if the M's plan on using Jeff McNeil as a potential trade piece coming up.

Was expecting much worse from Dipoto.

Well, there is now a new surface. McNiell is out. Without McNiell the trade sucks.
Wow just seeing this now. So $60M, Bruce, Swarzak and now no McNeil.

Add McNeil back in and I'll be all over this trade. What's pissing me off is not so much the M's are also sending 60mil over, but the bait and switch tactic. Other GM's don't think Dipoto is competent.

I figured there would be a substantial amount of money going to the Mets, but I don't understand how you go from Jeff McNeil to Gerson Bautista? At least replace McNeil with a decent prospect or at least something of value.

I like the deal.

We had no use for Colome and he was going to get around $7m in arbitration. This gives us a solid, young catcher.
I don't know much about Narvaez' defense but at first glance it seems like a pretty good trade.

I like the deal as well... Colome was a set up guy for us so for us to get a very good young catcher in the deal is a bonus...

Says he's a "work in progress" --- this would fit Dipoto's mold for this offseason. I like the trade.
