in some articles i read ..it said tampa had some payrole flexability

houston and white sox where in the chase as well

to me tampa wuold be the only one that would make a difference...before the deadline

Lots of competition with Castellanos and Jose Martinez both also on the trade block

LOL

we will have to monitor those situations...but there are also more teams than just three in on those guys....prob

the thing about a tampa trade is it totally fits in with a rebuild

I just don’t really get it. Not happy nor sad just a perplexing move for a team that is “rebuilding” and trying to move payroll.
I’m not questioning his ability. I’m questioning the rationale of the move as, to me, it doesn’t signal this is a rebuild. Just another status quo move where they won’t be bad enough to improve the franchise nor good enough to win. I’d dance with the he is trade bait but that goes back to the whole Jerry is doing a rebuild ass backwards.

I think this is fair opinion to have at this point. Committing money to a Japanese pitcher isnt suprising given the way this franchise has operated in the past.
I guess I'd say the difference is they actually have a farm system now. What comes of that no one knows and remains to be seen.

That’s fair and why I’m just posting I just don’t get it as it just leaves me puzzled on what the goal is for this season. They say 2021 but this doesn’t signify 2021 as the goal nor does it leave them bad enough to get top picks to replenish the farm system in a few years. Sure, they could trade some of these guys in a few years for more prospects but then the Mariners would be in an endless cycle of trades and no real goal other than “trust the process” to get to a World Series which no team in history has ever won a World Series building their organization this way.

The cubs and astros?

Neither of those team rebuilt this way. The Astros were the worst team in the league for like 4 straight years. The Mariners have ten times the talent they did. Same with the Cubs except they didn’t suck quite as long.

I’m not saying I dislike this, I’m just confused as hell to what the goal is because competing in 2021 doesn’t seem to be the goal. To me, this offense/defense is just as good as the roster that got them a 10 game lead in the wildcard.

there is some thing to what you are saying whtch is why they need to trade EE
cuz that would make a defference ..and no segura is a hole on offence...
compared to last year....but this year they will have smith witch may be a bit segura like

no diaz the world saver...that will make a big diff

but the rotation is a work in progress....and they still need a short stop

true stoy the rest of the team could be...not bad...and if eveyone hits on all celenders ..they could surprise...yes i think that is true

the outfield has a chance to be even better..yes i think that is true as well

the hernandez era will be over at years end...freeing 27 mil
plus add a few posssible trades at the deadline to clear another
20 mil or 25 mil

then we will prob be looking at what you would think of as a rebuild
but remember jedi started getting young players a few years back

lessening the blow of a rebuild

I guess your concern is the amount of money they are committing to a pitcher for a "rebuild" team and it's very valid. I can only rationalize it as
1) They need pitching. Don't have much right now.
2) Timetable for this "rebuild" is fairly short/quick. Could be looking at a 2-3 year turn-around. So in fact, competing in 2021 does appear to be the goal, which is why they gave him the 4-7 year option.
3) He will be the ace of the future because he's hell being paid like one.
4) Scott Boras is this guy's agent... Boras gets the dough for his clients.

Haven't been posting as excessively as usual because I was in LA for the Rose Bowl. Big fan of the Yusei Kikuchi signing. Contract is reasonable and he really could fit into the window in which the Mariners are looking to contend.

This has probably been posted, but Kikuchi seems like a really humble guy and I really hope he has success with the Mariners. Japanese and English are two vastly different languages, and it's really cool to see him hold that press conference and speak in English introducing himself.

I get all of that and can understand why people like the move cause truthfully I do too. I just don’t like this move in the context of rebuilding. This team needs to be god awful to get a few top draft picks and not blow their wad of money now. All of these guys Jerry has acquired are great in terms of being controllable but when you get a shit load of guys who will all be arbitration ready or FA at the same time they will be in the same situation they are now where they will have a bare farm system and have to deal them for prospects instead of adding payroll to contend.

I could be just a jaded Mariners fan but to me this whole “rebuild” is just setting the franchise up to be what they have been. A .500 team who if things break right can contend for a wild card.

man let me tell you I feel a lot better seeing our farm not look like a joke anymore and be ranked bottom in the league. In the last 10 years the only players that were drafted and signed to the team as prospects and panned out to be good players off the top of my head is Kyle Seager and Edwin Diaz if I am not mistaken. Hopefully we can see better because that's no acceptable.

the minors is getting closer and closer with every trade to being as good as it can be for now ...so if they added 4 or 5 top rated players..ok yeah it could be better...SS.3B.WOULD BE..GOOD...
then they just need good drafts...they had a good draft last year..and so far have an extra pick in 2019 at #77...whitch hopfully will mean they will have another good draft...to fill a few holes at that low lvl a few 1b..and few ss
and a lot of pitching as the main priority

then would be the down year draft...which i wont start on yet..but they also have some good DSL guys to add to those drafts
so i think they are ..ok for now

after eventualy clearing guys like EE .hernandez..swarzack.bruce.seager

they will start to add needed free agents again.....that will help them go to the world sieres...is the goal

going forward the mariners need an ace...if not kikuchi ...for now..then who

and if they got a different ace later ..he could go lower in the rotation..or out of the pen

nice.....
