I guess this is the difference between Woody Woodward and DIPoto. Langston trade changed the franchise. This trade doesn't even move the needle.

Yeah because putting faith in a 24 year old closer who is at peak trade value and relies on throwing a 100 MPH fastball despite being about 140lbs sounds like a great idea.

I truly believe in my heart that Sheffield is moved to the pen after next season. He is more hype than talent.

What I like:

-The Mariners land two starting pitchers who could be pitching on the big league team next year.

-For some reason Dom Thompson-Williams doesn't seem to get much love by the ratings agencies, but he put up absolutely monster numbers in low level ball in 2018. In 100 games he had 22 HRs, 20 SB hit .299/.363/.546. He's a bit old for the level he's been playing at, but he has shown promise.

What I don't like:

-Many seemed to assume we could get more for Paxton. Personally, I think many were overestimating what the Mariners could get in return for a 30 year old power pitcher who has yet to pitch more than 160 innings in a season in his career. Love Paxton, and when healthy he is absolutely lights out, but there is no reason to assume he can be reliable for more than 150 innings in a season.

Overall it's a fair trade and one that I believe includes two players who will be pitching in the rotation for us come 2020.

Since we throw out guys like Ramirez, Povse, Whalen, Miranda, Lawrence, etc, etc. to the mound, them pitching for us doesn't mean much. Will they be contributors is the question. And I say no to that.
