From my hometown and a guy I wanted the Mariners to get when he signed instead with the Giants.

2009 Yankees was the other team with Jeter and AFraud hating each other...or at least Jeter hating AFraud. AFraud hates no-one because he is politically correct...

Giants traded for him and had the advantage.

He didn’t age well though. His arm was old.

A real GM??? Good question. DIPoto probably a 'controllable' prospect who we later release to open a roster spot for a guy we cut later that week.

First I think you have to look at the need for a closer. I would think it would need to be a team in contention with need. I think two teams that stand out to me would be 1- Cubs 2- DBacks.

Worth? A #3 SP or a non-All Star hitter with upside. I think somebody earlier said the value is greater at the trade deadline and that is true. So let me play guessing game here with both teams mentioned.

Cubs - Tyler Chatwood and Ian Happ would be my best guess. I know they have Morrow and Strop, but both are better setup men. I would love to expand the deal and include Zunino for Contreras.

AZ - Robbie Ray and Chris Owings? We could add to the deal if we included Leake who would love to play for AZ.

We are too cheap to get him though. I could see the Braves picking him up. They have the money and the players to deal for him. I would love for the M's to sign Pollock and Corbin...but again, we are too cheap for that.

Are there any players who could be not tendered a 2019 contract?
It's not unreasonable to think some club-controlled players could come off the roster -- such as struggling pitchers Brandon Finnegan and Robert Stephenson and outfielder Mason Williams. Both Finnegan and Stephenson were once considered big parts of the future.

the m's have literally zero assets, and some other team's gm will STILL outwit trader jedi and the billionaire goon owners.

Last offseason it was the Marlins who literally got less then value return for Yelich, Stanton and Ozuna and managed to offload Dee Gordon's contract while getting one of the Mariners top pitching prospects. Meanwhile Gordon cant hit, doesn't have a postion and is making over 13 mil each of the next two seasons.

Even the Marlins can do it. Think about that

You know what builds a winner? Talent! So Jerry, if you don't know where it starts start with talent and go from there.

Yea I don't give a fuck about chemistry. Its not hard to figure out. They won a bunch of games with smoke and mirrors by one run and then when the littlest bit of adversity hit they sunk. One bad two week stretch before the break killed their season. That's on the manager or at least it should be. You let a couple bad series define you during a baseball season then you are mentally weak and that's what they were to go along with not being talented enough. I'm still not convinced the A's were a better team talent wise but they played better. That's what matters

Just read an article in the paper where both Jerry and Scott we attempting to explain the sudden fall of their team in early July. Neither one of them took any responsibility. Both just said they've been in baseball a long time and there are the "good" times and the "bad" times. Hey Jerry, maybe the fact you didn't get off your dead ass and bring in a starting pitcher (like Oakland did) might have had something to do with the team's confidence in it's leadership. EVERYONE knew we needed starting pitching and you failed to provide it. Ironic how things also fell apart about the time you and Scott got extended contracts too? I don't think so. Just told the team where ownership's head are at.

I think the common thread to success in baseball is simple, it is a farm system. We all know that, but it is the truest fact in baseball. Look at the Astros and every player they have is because of the farm system. Half or more of the roster was drafted by them. The other main players were obtained with players they drafted. The players they signed or extended were done so because of the drafted talent they have which are still below cost value at this level.

DIPoto has it in his head that the only way they can compete is by trading value for value. Unless you are winning big on every trade, it is a one step forward, one step back approach. Try walking a mile taking one step forward and then one step back...it doesn't work!!!

The Mariners use to make me mad, but now it is only the maddening thought process of DIPoto that gets to me. I really don't expect much from the team in my lifetime and I don't miss watching them as much as I once did either. Their problem won't be fixed anytime soon because the farm is the answer and they are as far away from building it as ever plus I don't think current management/scouts/directors have the ability to evaluate young potential so it doesn't matter.

If you aren't going to build a championship around Jr, Edgar, RJ, and Afraud, you aren't in the business to build one...ever!

I semi disagree with the chemistry is important. Chemistry isn’t important if the team has something to galvanize all of them, either hating the manager, winning etc. But I do think chemistry is important for when teams start to fall apart like they did. Just my feeling is that good chemistry can turn a collapse just into a losing streak. Jerry and Scott preached how great the chemistry was which obviously isn’t the case or their wouldn’t have been an altercation that we all found out about. Every team has altercations but generally we never know about them. Like the Golden Tate/Percy Harvin fight.

AGREED...and at this point the only thing they can do is a few trades with bull pen guy's
cuz if they trade prospects...they further put the mariners future at risk...especially
starting pitching
